In celebration of starting our second year of mentoring for DMP (Code for GovTech (C4GT)), Shubham Singh and @pikurasa created this: youtu.be/b9uZ8ZKWO-A 🎇 🎇 🎇

Everything you see in the video is code in Music Blocks, run in real time. The animation frames were designed and created in Figma by Shubham. Enjoy!

We're hosting a live event showcasing @sugar_labs 's new website. Building the new website has been fun and educational. It's not just a marketing platform, it's a portfolio for the organization, a place to collect and contextualize where we've been as well as to plan where we're going and how to get there. I hope you can join to learn more!

Drum roll...

We received a total of 267 applications -- that's incredible! Sugar Labs mentors are working on reviewing them all in the coming weeks. Keep up the great work everyone!

And please do your best to ignore any CSS things. We're making a totally new website, which will launch in about a month. We're not going to deal with that for the current version of the website.

If anyone wants to follow that work, please go to github.com/sugarlabs/www-v2

If you want to warm your heart after whatever else you've been reading today, feel free to skim through the Annual Reports for Sugar Labs: sugarlabs.org/community/2025/0

I have yet to promote it on the official Sugar Labs channel. It's a treat, just for you! And, if you see any typos, please let me know. We don't, like, any staff to look over anything I've written. (Yes, I wrote all ~15 pages myself, without any help from gen-AI.)

Did you know that Music Blocks has a feature to generated visual code from text-based ABC notation?

Last year, Abhijeet Singh developed a way to take ABC notation and transform it into musical code you can use in your Music Blocks (MB) projects. Need a little inspiration? You can now drag and drop some ABC notation from their website into MB.

Sugar Labs executive director Devin Ulibarri (@pikurasa) participated this morning in the hackathon workshop for the Reimagine Africa Conference, hosted in Port Harcourt, Nigeria.

He showed Music Blocks visual programming, talked about Constructionism and education, and watched student presentations. Bravo everybody!

I put a batch of thank you letters to people who donated to @sugar_labs last fall. It's very grounding to spend time writing my thanks and mailing out physical letters to our growing group of supporters.

Thank you all who gave to support our mission to create software for learning!

Can someone pretty please donate to every.org/sugar-labs? It'd be great if we could hire some hands to do things like do systems administration and support with deployment.

If you can't make a donation, that's ok. You can like or share the page, and that'll help.

And attached is an image of my students (used with permission) as inspiration, if you need it.
