Flowers on Drosera petiolaris. The type species of the Petiolaris complex of sundews from northern Australia, these plants are finicky in cultivation because they’re adapted to harsh conditions in the wild. Boiling got pretty much year round, bone dry for half of it and swamped the other, in very sandy grainy soils. They’re also known as the woolly sundews as many have either year-round or only during dormancy leaves or buds that are covered in dense fuzzy hairs.

A 2-inch pot with a Sarracenia flava pitcher plant recently received from California Carnivores. In addition to the pitcher plant (the tall, new pitcher arising from the center of the pot) there are 3 Drosera capensis sundews and at least 2 D. binata: "hitchhiker" plants that established themselves in the pot while it was in the greenhouse.
