This is v cool - stem-cell-derived islet cell transplantation for type 1 diabetes. 12/14 patients were independent of exogenous insulin at 1 year! BUT, for a very manageable condition with great tech like #T1D, of 14 patients, 2 died! Tantalising but (v exciting) work in progress. #MedSky 🧪

@AWolfInCheapClothing one more of many initially promising "cures" for #t1d that involve wiping out the patient's immune system first. These have been around for 30 years....variations on transplants from other humans or other animals. A lack of a source islet cells for transplant is not the problem.

If you put t1d patients on enough immunosuppressive drugs, they'll even regrow their own islet cells.

The treatment is worse than the disease, for most patients.

I had coffee, chocolate milk, a granola bar, a glass of OJ, French toast with syrup, a Gu gel, another granola bar, a beer, & 3 mini pizzas today. I only bolused ~2.67u all day.

I also #biked 16.7 mi & burned 1,700 calories.

I’ve noticed on days I #cycle that I just shouldn’t bolus, or else I end up super #hypo.
