#TaskPaper

Import #Taskpaper to #Omnifocus with an automation (= Omnifocus plugin): omni-automation.com/omnifocus/ac... "Paste from Clipboard" is quite handy for #AI generated Taskpapers. #productivity

So, I created a little script that will take a #TaskPaper formatted file and create #jira task, complete with sub-tasks and descriptions for each task. I just need to set it up to create the root task inside a project, and I will be happy.

I had to cobble together a parser for TaskPaper, as the current library (which looks awesome, BTW), was throwing a bunch of errors.

GTD is a collection of relatively simple tactics for coping with, prioritizing, and organizing the things you want to do. Many of the methods relate to organizing your own projects, using a handful of context-based to-do lists (e.g. a list of things to do at the office, at home, while waiting in line, etc). These lists consist of simple tasks. Those tasks are, in […]

Moving from #things to #omnifocus by building a #taskpaper doc. OmniFocus has some issues that make it impossible to import areas (which would become folders). My (very short) program is #Python and I developed it in a #jupyter_notebook. If anybody cares I can turn the notebook into a text gist and make it available. I do still have to make repeats work.

The only bummer was, there was a really good looking #TaskPaper parser, but i think it was for a previous version of #python. I imagine I could get it working, though.

I ended up asking #ChatGPT to create a TaskPaper parser, and it created one that is good enough.

Maybe I'll use that as a basis for a new one, but i'd rather help the author of the original one get it working.

One thing i hate about setting up projects with #Jira is setting up tasks. It's slow, and tedious, and if it requires any input or approvals from others, it's maddening.

In my quest to work more with #python, i created a script that will input a #TaskPaper file, and create Jira sub-tasks from the tasks with notes.

Putting a #qt interface on it using #pyside 6 now.

Wondering if I could write a little desktop application to do the following:
- Parse #TaskPaper text (from #omnifocus)
- Export that project data to a #Jira task as subtasks via their API.

That would be so helpful.

I used Strflow today with OmniFocus, which is pretty good for an interstitial journal. I can quickly bring it up and leave a status update about projects. It is handy when making a phone call and logging what we discussed.
I made two shortcuts, which work on the selected action’s project:

Confession: I may have had a fling with the iPad, but let’s just say Taskpaper holds a special place in my productivity heart. Yeah, the one that makes to-do lists feel like a breeze? Well, guess who’s back on a Mac and itching to rekindle that love affair? This iPad break was fun, but let’s be real, there’s something about keyboard shortcuts and text files that just hits different. ⌨️ Now, if the tech gods could bless me with a license, my Obsidian workflow would be singing hymns!

p.s. Text files are awesome. They even run the internet.

Follow this link to Brett’s website and have your own entry. Good luck on winning that license! And thanks for spreading the word about this awesome app. Text files are indeed the unsung heroes of the internet, and Taskpaper is a fantastic way to harness their power for yourself.

I am a big fan of #TaskPaper, but unfortunately, the lack of a good iPhone app has forced me to stop using it 😢. @jessegrosjean can we even dream about it?

@macstories Thanks for another great episode, @johnvoorhees and @viticci!

It's worth noting that has a cross-platform plug-in architecture; I use plug-ins daily (I shared some of my favourites here: learnomnifocus.com/plug-ins/). Shortcuts support is also good.

Also, is one approach to a transportable, text-based syntax for tasks and projects. It would be great if most task managers supported this (or something similar).

I’ve refined the way I use the #TaskPaper syntax so that my project and task page overview is a truly useful document in #Obsidian as well as in TaskPaper itself.

The way I’m making it work in both #apps without indented tasks becoming code blocks in Obsidian, is to put a wiki link as the first indented item under the project name. This is usually to the project page in Obsidian, but I use a dummy link if there isn’t one.

Made a few changes to my daily app setup: #taskpaper replacing the old 2Do, #Arc replacing Safari and #ivory the new Mastodon client. I set up a new 'Bunch' to open those when I start doing some writing.

Where are all the #TaskPaper nerds? It's very quiet over on Reddit.

Coo-ee! I'm looking for my tribe of people who don't expect me to speak org or emacs. People who love keeping their projects and tasks in a single document, as simply as possible.

@matadan is doing some interesting things with TP which I'm following with interest.
