Okay you #nerdlings - my aim in the coming two weeks is to #ScratchBuild /#TrashBash a stable to serve as a display for my Christmas themed #Miniature models (next toot) to be displayed on the mantelpiece at Xmas time. Proper crossing them #MiniatureGaming and #WarhammerForGrannies streams

I have some ideas knocking about. Can't decide. You decide.

I've done some more miniature bricklaying and I'm happy to report that the entire box has been cladded around the sides. The next project is the top, but for that I need to experiment with some different ways of using a silicone mould for easy flagstone making.

Air drying clay is meh: the edges curl up, and polymer oven clay is meh: centres puff up.

Top left: bare wall made of XPS bricks that look like dressed stone. There's a small hole with a stone arch in the bottom of the wall and trust me when I tell you it runs all along and there is light at the end of that tunnel.

Top right: a bridge made of dressed stone bricks connecting to the top of the platform. The traversible part of the bridge is paved with cheap air drying clay flagstones that are just slightly too thick.

Bottom left: circular stairwell next to a section of wall that has the bridge connected to it. I've put magnets in the bridge and the wall because I'm an idiot.

Bottom right: the entire platform, at an angle that shows both the hole in the bottom and the docking stations for the bridge. There's also a small section of the top covered in flagstones made of cheap polymer clay.

So I managed to fix the gaping hole beside the spiral staircase! Took the approach suggested by @Gurre and didn't bother with any cardboard substructure.

Only a few issues left to solve (and a butt load of flagstones to craft). Pretty happy so far.

Composite image of a section of a cardboard fruit box I took from a supermarket that's almost completely cladded with XPS foam that's been cut and made to look like dressed stone. There's a spiral staircase of the same material set into the box that's got a round stone wall. The top of the box is still not cladded with anything but will get flagstones. There's a big gap in the top next to the staircase, but that'll be filled easily. White glue is a miracle material!

So thanks to Aldi i now have a great container with semi ergonomic grip for weathering XPS bricks with some rocks.

I also found out that the ideal ratio is just over 50% filled to get the fastest results - anything more and the rocks won't be able to move about freely, and anything less and they don't make enough contact with the things they're supposed to be weathering.

Very zen and satisfying.

Also, the snacks in it are 👍🏼

Probably 2 l container that originally held savory snacks and has a nice big cap that can be screwed on firmly. here it's filled with Blue plastic Bricks that are in obvious need of some wear and tear because no medieval wall ever had absolutely straight cut bricks.

If you flip a dice tray inside out it makes a decent hill for #alphastrike. Ideally it would be a bit shorter and a more natural colour. A way of securing the corners either way (magnets instead of snaps) would allow for two different colours from each hill.

Maybe augment with toppers for more variety (say, grey and brown, then green, white, and tan toppers.)

Also magnets to secure modules together and some supporting shapes like half hexes.

Had a small high point in this winter term: wife was off to shops with eldest, and youngest two were playing, so I got the time and opportunity to play with my proxxon thermocut and had a #zen hour filling up this box with freshly cut bricks for #SceneryBuilding. I need to get a move on with my #Mordheim terrain at some point, now my #TrenchCrusade #Terrain is done.

Here we are. I think these are done now. What was intended to be a two week project at most spiralled out of control, but I think the results speak for themselves. If I have time I may set up a little scene to better show them off.

A dark wash all over to bring it together more. I had hoped to finish today, but the wash wasn't drying quick enough for the final drybrush, even with a hairdryer. Hopefully tomorrow will yield the results I'm looking for.

I added some texture. Afterwards I drenched all the buildings in watered down PVA glue. I give them another drenching in glue tomorrow as well. Try and solidify it as much as possible before I start painting. The end is in sight!
