Instead, we should trust our instincts and not let liberals browbeat us into conformity and passivity. It's time to forgo usual dinner party etiquette and act in line with our sense of looming danger.

Btw, #TheInvitation is free to stream on #Kanopy right now (at least in #Oakland).

The #DailyStream becomes the #DailyScream for spooky season! Today: it’s regrets — massive regrets — only for 2016’s #TheInvitation, Karen Kusama’s haunting exercise in paranoia and suspense. The perfectly eerie ending lingers... #Shudder on both sides of the Atlantic, also #Kanopy US, #Prime UK

#KarynKusama #TheInvitation is an incredible mix of tense thriller and moving exploration of grief.

#TheInvitation, on #Netflix, is a bit of a different take on a genre.

Unfortunately the third act thoroughly betrays the promise of the setup and devolves into pure foolishness and a tone that ends up entirely divorced from the first two thirds of the movie.

This could have been really something fresh and meaningful—a commentary on class, power, patriarchy, and more—instead, it's a sloppy mess only worth watching as mindless entertainment.

I’m working on a piece about #InfinityPool, and the more I think about it, the more I feel like this might be one of those films, like #KarynKusama’s #TheInvitation, that becomes one of my all time favorites. #MiaGoth and #AlexanderSkarsgård are brilliant in it, and it’s more emotionally intelligent and mature than first glance suggests. #Horror #Film #movies #horrormovies #genremovies #genrefilm #Cronenberg

And I'm gonna say it: Even if #TheInvitation is predictable and there are a lot of vampire movies out there, there *aren't* a lot of vampire movies with black female leads. There's room for this one.

(But seriously, somebody teach the trailer person how to make better trailers.)

Just finished watching #TheInvitation (2022) and man, that movie was done dirty by the marketing team. Whoever made the trailer should be retrained. It's still got the problem that most vampire movies have, which is predictability. But the acting is solid, the lead actress is great, and the sets are fun to look at. If the trailer hadn't given away every single plot point save one, it would have been a fun watch for audiences. (Hence trailer pointedly not attached).
