How Daniel Miller aka #TheNormal used his first synth, a second-hand miniKORG 700S, to create “Warm Leatherette”: He clicked the “On” button.
#NowPlaying Alex Ball deconstructs how Daniel Miller aka #TheNormal used his first synth, a second-hand miniKORG 700S, to create the cult song “Warm Leatherette” (1978) in his bedroom. This song was the B-side to “T.V.O.D.” and the first ever release by #MuteRecords. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X8TJCNdyajg

I'm about to call it a night. Or a day. Or a sleep.
Just saw a post that reminded me of this particular song. Apparently, there was some kind of weird... I want to say "fetish"... but that's not quite the word. People in England in the 1960s staged motor vehicle accidents and victims, etc... and then took pictures of the staged... accidents.
I've literally seen movies produced by this "car crash set" - firsthand - and I still can't explain the phenomenon.
Anyway.
See the breaking glass
In the underpass
See the breaking glass
In the underpass
Warm leatherette
Hear the crushing steel
Feel the steering wheel
Hear the crushing steel
Feel the steering wheel
Warm leatherette
Warm leatherette
Warm leatherette
Melts on your burning flesh
You can see your reflection
In the luminescent dash
Warm leatherette
A tear of petrol
Is in your eye
The hand brake
Penetrates your thigh
Quick - Let's make love
Before you die
On warm leatherette
Warm leatherette
Warm leatherette
Warm leatherette
Warm leatherette
Join the car crash set
Another superb Cherry Red Records compilation.

Sure there's the 'big names' like #TheHumanLeague #OMD #TheNormal #ThomasDolby #FadGadget but it's the bands who maybe released just one single or had a brief run of local fame before fading away that grabs the attention.
This song is a great example - Poeme Electronique w. She's An Image
I love the fact it sounds like it could have been made by Trisha Yates and the rest of the girls at Grange Hill. It's the DIY attitude that you don't hear anymore.
