Reading recent #Vance interview in full makes it much more balanced that earlier fragments quoted by media. Still, you can see a rather astonishing level of confusion among US elites about what’s going on in #Ukraine and #Russia
For example, Vance’s rhetorical question “what will happen to Russians living in Ukraine” is absurd - ethnic Russians in Ukraine simply lived and live there because it’s their country. They were not forcibly deported to Ukraine from Russia, they were born or moved there.
If anyone wanted to leave for Russia or the EU, they would have left long ago, and Ukraine did not make it difficult for them (except for mobilization).
The only problem is the other side, which actively deported thousands of people from Ukraine and placed them in unknown locations – some ended up in Siberia, some in prisons.
