#VideoDisc

I came across this very beautiful and well maintained vintage "EP Album Records" machine in the foreground, and "CTA Video Disc" machine in the background in a small lake-view steakhouse. Completely unexpected and a total delight. Not sure if it works or not, but they look to be in very good condition and the EP machine is full of records, so I suspect it would probably still do the job...!

Following on from @Lydie’s post on CED videodisc players, I have this one for nostalgia reasons! That and it makes a nice piece of artwork for display. This was one of the 50 free discs my dad got and yes, I played it until it was worn out πŸ˜„ #CED #VideoDisc #TheWho

How #RCA's #VideoDisc Failure Became a #Semiconductor Success Story. This #HomeVideo Wannabe launched a scanning #microscope. RCA expected the VideoDisc to capture half of the home video market, but instead it lost out in a big way to #VHS. But the exquisitely sensitive capacitance sensors used in the VideoDisc players were capable of measuring capacitance differences on the scale of attofarads (1 Γ— 10-18 farad), perfect for the scanning capacitance microscope (#SCM)!

Note: this is not the LaserDisc.

"In 1981, RCA filed a patent for the SCM [scanning capacitance microscope] on behalf of company researcher James R. Matey. The microscope was an unintentional by-product of the VideoDisc technology the company had been struggling to bring to market since the mid-1960s."

Does anyone have any experience with "RCA Video Discs", or "Capacitance Electronic Discs (CED)"?

My mum just found an old RCA Video Disc player in storage, along with a few old movie discs. She has no use for them, so I'm wondering if there's any interest from anyone else in having them. I'm not sure if they're worth anything to folks who are into obsolete media. It seems like it was pretty pricey in its day, so it would be a shame to just throw them away.
