"A new Toy for old Men! 😁

Last week I received this analog camcorder as a gift. Today's evening I brought the pretty, 30 years old lady (built 02/95) back to life:

The camera has only been used a few times over the years and I didn't even have to clean the head drum. I just regenerated the grease of the capstan bearing and adjusted the tape transport a bit.

Now I just have to dust it off a bit, then it'll actually be like new again. I'm looking forward to using the camera extensively at the harbor in spring and summer... 🤩😍

#glitchart is so interesting to me. You can apply technological knowledge using dated equipment chained together with cable spaghetti in so many different ways to create something unique and often impermanent. The addition of analog video feedback creates unpredictable randomness that is non-repeating and chaotic. I only hope that hours of staring into old crt tv’s will not permanently degrade my eyesight.

Here is a quick recording showing Détail features.

When set to lowpass, the filter blurs the image horizontally as the cutoff frequency decreases. When set as a highpass filter, it enhances the details of the picture, targetting the finer details at maximum cutoff frequency.
Adding resonance will emphasize those details to an extreme level, a typical effect of analog video glitch.

Testing the second revision of Détail, a Composite video processor based around a voltage controlled lowpass/high pass filter, which allows to enhance or blur the finer details of the video signal.
Here, the video signal goes through Détail first, then through Stable, with some CV cross-patching between the two.

Recorded in Composite PAL/576i50 with BM Analog to SDI + Video Assist.

Found a Blaupunkt CCR 890 H camcorder while thrifting for a camera bag; it has seen better days, but the broken Wide zoom button was still in the bag, as well as the remote, charger + mains adapter, a battery (dead, sadly), and composite cables.

Nothing else appears to be broken, and I have some unused Video-8 tapes I can put in it to test if it still records.
