Feb 9: Black Women Organizing (1920) 🖤📜

Before the ballot was ever guaranteed, Black women were already building power.

Long before laws caught up, organization led the way.

And that truth still stands today: power is built between elections—through education, solidarity, and showing up every time.

🗳️✊🏾 Register to vote at 👉 votefromabroad.org

A yellow, black, red, and green graphic with the DA logo at the top and the Global Black Caucus logo at the bottom. There are three photos of Black women, the middle one of a group holding signs. The text says "THE VOTE WAS NEVER FREE"
BLACK WOMEN ORGANIZING (1920)
Organizing Before Voting.
Before they had the legal right to vote, Black women built informal voter networks through churches, mutual aid societies, and women's
clubs-educating communities on politics, mobilizing men to vote, fundraising for legal challenges, and treating voting as collective protection rather than an individual act.
After the Voting Rights Act, these networks powered mass registration and turnout, with leaders like Ella Baker and Fannie Lou Hamer turning grassroots organizing into direct political power.
Power is built between elections.
Communities today must organize, educate, and show up in every election cycle, not just on major elections".

The House is set to vote THIS WEEK on a new variant of the anti-voter SAVE Act, now rebranded the “SAVE America Act.” Don’t be fooled by the name, this bill keeps the worst provisions of the original SAVE Act and makes them even more extreme.

☎️Call your members of Congress and demands they OPPOSE the SAVE America Act! U.S. Capitol Switchboard: (202) 224-3121

Light blue background. Text says “Protect Your Voting Rights: Oppose the SAVE America Act. The so-called “SAVE America Act” is a voter suppression bill in disguise — and the House could vote this week.” Photos of Trump and Chuck Schumer are in the bottom right. The Take Action logo is in the bottom left.Light blue background. Text says “House Republicans are rushing a rebranded version of the anti-voter SAVE Act to the floor ahead of the midterms. The bill would force in-person proof of citizenship and residency to register and vote, creating massive barriers for millions of eligible Americans — especially voters abroad, women, disabled voters, and voters of color. There’s zero evidence this is needed. It’s about silencing voters, not protecting elections.” A photo of House Republicans is in the bottom left. Dear Senator/Representative -

President Trump has called for Republicans to “nationalize the voting.” This is a direct threat to constitutional governance, and your constituents need to hear you defend the Constitution loudly and repeatedly.

I’m not arguing policy. At issue is a fundamental question of whether we'll honor the constitutional structure that delegates election administration to the states. That authority cannot be seized by executive fiat or even congressional action; it can happen only by amending the Constitution itself.

The pretext for this power grab—claims of widespread voting by non-citizens—has been thoroughly debunked. A Brookings analysis of Heritage Foundation data reveals the truth: for example, in a 25-year period in Arizona, 36 fraudulent votes accounted for 0.0000845% of ballots cast across 36 elections. Voter fraud is not altering election outcomes.

The federal government, via laws and court rulings, has limited authority over federal elections. Our state and local officials run secure elections. What we urgently need are leaders willing to say so publicly and to draw a clear line against unconstitutional federal overreach.

Will you honor your oath of office and commit to speaking out against efforts to centralize election authority in defiance of the Constitution?

States Control Elections and Donald Trump Hates That Reality

The Constitution makes one thing clear: states control elections. Donald Trump’s obsession with federal control shows he does not understand or respect that fact.

Precisely why we can’t fight our way out of fascism at the ballot box. If elections were fair, we’d stand a chance. But they’re not.

This list of corruption is massive, overwhelming, and depressing. Let it be the fire that ignites you. Let it be your “red line.”

Sleeping now, counting on voting later, ain’t it.

Highly suspect indeed: “The president’s judgment on what constitutes an ‘honest’ election is highly suspect, as he has repeatedly peddled falsehoods and debunked conspiracy theories about the results of recent elections.”

Trump’s FBI Raid Could Lead to a Takeover of Elections in Georgia’s Largest County

On Monday, in a dramatic escalation of his administration’s attempt to interfere in the midterm elections, President Trump called on Republicans “to take over the voting in at least 15 places.”  Trump’s efforts “to nationalize the voting,” as he put it, will be difficult to pull off, since states have control over the administration of […]

Literacy Tests (1800s–1975)
Literacy tests were used to suppress Black voters into the 1960s. Black voters faced impossible questions, while white voters were often exempt.

Black communities organized, learned the law, and fought back. Today, confusing systems can still suppress turnout. Voting access shouldn’t depend on complexity.

Sec. of State #ShennaBellows: #DOJ demand for #Minnesota #voter data shows #ICERaids tied to #elections

Lauren McCauley
Mon, January 26, 2026 at 9:02 AM EST

Excerpt: "Bellows, a Democrat running for governor, has twice rejected requests to provide the DOJ with sensitive voter data, including driver’s license numbers, partial social security numbers and full dates of birth, along with names of officials who handle the list’s maintenance, the number of ineligible voters the state identified due to noncitizenship and voter registration applications from specific time periods, among other information.

"The DOJ has argued the data is necessary to assess states’ compliance with the statewide voter registration list maintenance provisions of the #NationalVoterRegistrationAct.

"Maine is now among the states being sued by the federal government over its failure to comply.

"In a motion to dismiss filed last month, the state argued that the lawsuit should be discharged because the DOJ failed to support a valid legal case as to why it is justified to such information, and that its data requests violate federal privacy law.

"The motion also noted voter registration databases contain information about people’s choice of political party and in which elections they chose to vote, which are activities protected by the #FirstAmendment. Bellows and other secretaries of state have also raised concern about the federal government using voter records for citizenship probes.

"In a statement Sunday, Bellows said, '#Maine will never turn over our voter rolls as a ransom payment to get ICE to end its #unconstitutional assault on our state.

" 'Our founders designed a system where states and local governments, not the federal government, oversee elections to safeguard us from exactly this — a #tyrannical, #PowerHungry president trampling on our #ConstitutionalRights,' she wrote."

#ShennaBellows says Trump's call for federal #elections takeover is blatantly #unconstitutional

#MainePublic | By Steve Mistler
Published February 3, 2026

"Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows said Tuesday that President Donald Trump's call for a federal takeover of elections is blatantly unconstitutional, but a threat that should be taken seriously given moves his administration has already made.

"Bellows, a Democrat who is also running for governor, says the president's comments on a right-wing podcast about commandeering elections in 15 unnamed states fit a troubling pattern. That includes an effort by the Department of Justice to obtain states' private voter data, which Bellows' office is fighting alongside Oregon in federal court.

"Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon also pushed back after receiving a letter from Attorney General Pam Bondi suggesting the immigration surge there would end if officials complied with the DOJ, a request he described as 'apparent ransom.'

"Bellows said those moves, along with the FBI's recent raid of election offices in #FultonCounty #Georgia, suggest Trump is trying to preempt voter backlash to his policies in coming #elections.

" 'The president fears big losses in the 2026 and 2028 and is trying to set the stage for federal interference in our elections,' she said.

"Under the #Constitution, states govern American elections. But Trump has frequently made unsubstantiated claims that Democrats exploit the decentralized system to rig outcomes."

#DemocracyNow - “No Means No”: #AZ Secretary of State Calls for #Resistance as #Trump Pushes to “#Nationalize#Voting

February 04, 2026

"As President Trump suggests the federal government should 'nationalize' and take over the elections process from the states, we speak with #Arizona Secretary of State #AdrianFontes. He is the former county recorder for Maricopa County, Arizona, and oversaw elections there in 2020. The #JusticeDepartment has sued Arizona and over 20 other states [includng #Maine] for their full #VoterRegistration lists. 'No means no,' Fontes says in response to the Trump administration’s encroachment on state authority. 'We should not be handing over any of our personal identifying information to the president. Not only should we not be doing it, but it’s against the law for me to fulfill the request from the Department of Justice.' "

When the state loses control of a definition, it rewrites the law. A WA court ruling on voting exposes a long U.S. pattern: power lives in who defines the election.
