Australia calls for ‘full accountability’ on anniversary of #WCK killings
Today marks one year since Israel killed seven World Central Kitchen workers in Gaza, including six international employees.
“Ms Frankcom was driven by passion and a purpose. Aid workers like her, and the civilians they help, must always be protected. Gaza is the deadliest place to be an aid worker with almost 400 killed since Oct 7, 2023. We repeat our call on all parties to abide by international law.”
In November 2024, the Israeli military killed three workers with the WCK and at least two other people in an air strike on a vehicle in Khan Younis, southern Gaza.
The charity World Central Kitchen says another of its personnel has been killed in an Israeli strike in Gaza.
In April 2024, a series of Israeli air attacks hit a convoy of the WCK, killing seven of its aid workers in central Gaza. Those killed were from Palestine, Australia, Poland and the United Kingdom, as well as a US-Canadian citizen.
Another staff member was killed in an Israeli attack in July 2024.

Now that everyone has had a chance to catch our collective breath, Santa Ana winds are picking up in Los Angeles after a pause, and are forecast to continue through Wednesday. Gah! At least they're not predicted to be as strong as the 100 MPH ones that were present when the conflagrations took off.
For those who can, World Central Kitchen has been asking for donations. They're feeding people for free at 6 locations.
Land there is generally considerably more valuable than the real estate atop it. I hope those who are approached by speculators to sell that valuable burned land, perhaps for pennies on the dollar, resist. A local realtor, one representing sellers, should be on their side. And I hope they stay and rebuild with help from state and local institutions. Habitat for Humanity is committed to help.
