The Wasatch Front seen from my office window, looking East. In the foreground are trees, the mountains are also covered in trees. Their leaves are changing colours. The last rays of the sun tinge the ridges of the mountains. A thick layer of clouds, lit by the sunset, cloak the mountains. Above it all the sky is blue.

There's nothing else quite as crisp as being lofted up on one of those chairs, as you hold your skis and listen to the whispering winds as sun and shadow caress your face...

Despite the name you'll find more solitude at Jackson Hole than you do at Solitude Mountain, but this view was nothing short of dreamy when I was there. It might lack verisimilitude, but the edit brings across the vibe all too well, of a "Chairlift to Heaven".

4. The highlight was when in a sunny partial clearing, a very colourful butterfly glided over me. I recognised it immediately from “Watsatch butterflies” as an Arizona Sister. It settled on a tree and unfortunately my photos do not do it justice. Just before that #butterfly took off, another landed on a different bush in the same glade. Distinctive black and white, a Weidemeyer’s Admiral I think. #butterflies #utah #saltlakecity #Wasatch

An icy Mt. Olympus erupts from a scrubby forest that is awakening from its winter slumber. Small splotches of green can be seen in some of the foliage in the foreground as trees begin to bloom and leaf.

The local avalanche forecast shoes that the danger is extreme at all elevations and all compass directions. The star represents altitude and direction, and the black represents extreme avalanche danger.

Adams Canyon upper falls in East Layton, Utah. Looking forward to hiking this one again in 2024.
