I'm encouraged by what the Ladybird team and their non-profit are doing;

Some progress on Simple Web Browser today.
- Forward/Back/Reload implemented
- Control buttons are sensitive only when they do something (ie, forward button is greyed out if you can't go forward)
- Added a shortcut to focus the address bar
- Change text in address bar and window title when changing tabs

I mentioned a little while back that I was considering starting a new browser project using WebKitGtk. The result, written in Vala, is nearing minimum viability. Right now it's nothing special, just a simple tabbed browser that's missing a lot of features, but the skeleton is good and you already get some goodies that Gnome Web doesn't give you:
- Ability to hide the tab bar
- Ability to hide the address bar and other controls
- When the tab bar is hidden, am overview button appears in the controls like on a mobile browser

Once I have what I consider minimally viable, I'll make the repository on Codeberg public and link to it.

MakeUseOf: This browser extension gets rid of every cookie pop-up on every site. “There’s a lot of malicious intent and security vulnerabilities that can come from sharing the wrong kinds of cookies. That’s why I use Consent-O-Matic, a browser extension that eliminates me having to deal with any cookie pop-ups that I don’t want to.”

Since I started working on getting my freelance work going again, I realized that I would have a need for a notes app that works well on Linux. Then I remembered that @Vivaldi has a notes app built in. I've been using the Notes app for a week or so and it's brilliant! I used it for a while a few years ago but then stopped using a notes app for some reason or another. Give Vivaldi's a try. I think you'll really like it.

And yes, I know that Vivaldi isn't 100% Open Source. And yes, I know that it's built with Blink. Please stop telling me this. It's not Chrome or Chromium. I understand why this worries some people but you should really be talking to Mozilla about this and tell them to stop shoving AI into everything.

The Register: Just the Browser claims to tame the bloat without forking. “Just the Browser is a new project by developer Corbin Davenport. It aims to fight the rising tide of undesirable browser features such as telemetry, LLM bot features billed as AI, and sponsored content by a clever lateral move. It uses the enterprise management features built into the leading browsers to turn these things […]
