I don't know what I was expecting...
oh god oh fuck copilot got into Word '97 #retrocomputing #win98 #windows98

Holy shit it worked.
I'm installing Windows 98 on a 32gb SSD. I had formatted the SSD to FAT32 in macOS's Disk Utility app. Windows 98 didn't like it. Loaded DOS 7 off the 98 setup CD, ran fdisk, and reformatted the drive in FAT32. Now Windows 98 install appears to be working. #retrocomputers #windows98 #win98
My ideal laptop is one with trackpoint and two buttons. No need for a touchpad.
Around 2002 I used an old laptop similar with the one on the picture. Even at the time, this laptop was already considered old and too bulky.
If I am not mistaken, I used Windows 98, Java J2SE and Editplus. I learned to program on Java on the machine.
I brough the laptop to various libraries where I can read SUN's books.

No post yesterday 😅 But I tidied up the place a bit. Pinned some icons and added the 'Network neighborhood' to feature blogs I follow.
The funny thing is that back in the XP days I didn't have any icons on the desktop to keep it clean and memory-efficient. It's a bit strang to see the long list of post icons wiggling there like some long Nokia-snake's tail.

I have a small test recording I made when I was trying out to see how well the VGA duplicator works with a cheap VGA to HDMI cable I have. I must admit that it works surprisingly well, all things considered.
I don't think I'll be winning any "influencer" awards, but I, somehow, will try to find a way to survive that great loss.
Curious what it looks like? Have a gander:

I've been playing Anno 1602 on it, one of my childhood favorites. Quite a tough game (for me, anyway), but it's fun. I feel like I've actually learned how to do certain things I somehow never figured out way back when.
I played and finished "Star Trek: Hidden Evil" on it. Maybe not the greatest of titles, but I had fun with it regardless. I think it's the only Korean release PC big box game I own, though the game itself is not localized.
A few weeks ago I stumbled upon a listing for a Pentium 3 PC that someone had cobbled together and was selling as a ready to go Windows 98 retro box. Spinning rust and all.
I couldn't resist.
While my Thinkpad X61 is great for XP, I wanted something that could be used well for DOS.
I've been adding and replacing some parts to make it more "me," and even lucked into finding a decent 19" CRT monitor. I've been really enjoying using it so far.
