Hab neulich noch einen echt schönen 3.5 Zoll Diskettensatz für das ganz klassiche MS Winword 1.1 ergattert. Auch wenn die Installationsroutine für hier noch komplett unter DOS läuft, handelt es sich schon um moderne 1.44MB HD-Disketten. Winword 1.1 war im Jahr 1990 das letzte Word, was noch problemlos in Windows 2.11 funktioniert hat. Spätere Versionen waren dann nur noch unter Windows 3 lauffähig.

Hier gibt's jetzt auch die originalen Microsoft Disketten für Word 6.0 für Windows 3.1. Hab vor dem Scannen noch versucht, alles so sauber wie möglich zu reinigen und funktionieren tun sie jetzt auch einwandfrei in 86Box.

Der Verkäufer beschrieb die Disketten gemeinerweise bereits als "antik" und das nur, weil sie halt schon 35 Jahre alt sind. Für ihr Alter ließen sie sich aber noch sehr sauber auslesen. Hier frisch aus dem Jahre 1990: WinWord 1.1 für Windows 2.x:

Bei mir lag heute eine seltene 1995er CD-Version von Microsoft Word 6.0a für Windows 3.1 im Briefkasten. Hab euch natürlich gleich ein ISO-Image der CD-ROM, sowie einen schicken 300dpi Scan ins Internet-Archive gestellt. Kann ja vielleicht jemand brauchen.

Interesting! MS Word for Windows 1.1 does run in Windows 3.11, but is still very much a Windows 2.x application. It doesn't even bring a coloured icon, but instead keeps it entirely in b/w!

Als ich Mitte '93 den großen Sprung vom Amiga 1200 auf meinen ersten 386er PC mitmachte, war "WinWord 2.0b" für mich eine der ersten, echten Killer-Anwendungen für allerlei Schul- und Hobbyprojekte. Zu dieser Zeit natürlich noch verbunden mit einem wunderbar lauten 24er Nadeldrucker! Die Jahre danach folgten natürlich viele Upgrades. Word 6.0, Word 95, 97, 2000, XP und weitere Versionen in schneller Folge. Aber trotzden behielt ich WinWord 2.0b einfach immer in guter, nostalgischer Erinnerung.

Falls es von euch jemand haben möchte, hab ich gerade mal einen sauberen Diskettensatz ins Internet Archive hochgeladen. In gutem Zustand sind die inzwischen echt immer schwerer zu finden!

More #Psion documentation fun, this time with headings/sections.

Psion made much of the SIBO/EPOC16 documentation in Microsoft Word. Looking at a .DOC file, I've realised that they often skipped "Heading 3", going straight from Heading 2 to Heading 4. They only used Heading 3 in specific circumstances, such as function and syscall names.

Skipping section titles breaks #AsciiDoc's rules.

I'm trying to work a way around it, but I have no idea how.

BTW, I still find the #Office365 #spellchecker still lacking. It always overlooks 1-4 error per printed page.
I often use #LibreOffice for my #Word docx files as an additional step.

Haven't done any papers larger than 20-30 pages with this method, but never had a layout etc. issue after re-opening and saving ahson in #WinWord.

The guy/gal who did the conversion into #Word lacks any basic IT understanding for a workplace.
(No, Word is not enough, and nice formatting is way easier in #MS #Excel than in #Winword.)

But you have to work with the crew you have, volunteers, right. 😉
