I run nine #workspaces (virtual desktops) in #LinuxMint. I always keep text editor Kate open on workspace one, Double Commander on two, Firefox on three, Vivaldi on six. Kate and DC just open on the current desktop.

But somehow the browsers know their habitual places, and if I open Vivaldi while on workspace nine, it actually opens on desktop six, its usual spot. Likewise Firefox opening on workspace three, even if I was on desktop eight when I hit its invocation key.

@jbz@indieweb.social fwiw... i still use ​:firefox_nightly:​ & love it. i disable or otherwise just don't use its #AI bullshit baggage. i enjoy using its new long-awaited #SplitTabs feature. i use the brilliant #FirefoxSecondSidebar project, giving me a #WebPanel second-sidebar more powerful & flexible than any of #Floorp, #Zen [before they removed it], & Vivaldi. i use the magnificent #TreeStyleTab AO for exquisite infinitely-nestable hierarchical tabs that blows FF's native vertical tabs, chromium's, Floorp's, Vivaldi's outta da water. I use the also magnificent #SimpleTabGroups AO to give me excellent #Workspaces capability. my #uBlockOrigin is in Advanced Hard Mode, & the many tens of thousands of dynamic filter rules i've cumulatively created over the years helps make day to day browsing simply lovely. I use custom #userChrome.css, #userContent.css, & user.js files to tailor my Nightly's UX & UI "just so".

every day for many many months now i read so many posts from peeps [rightly] complaining about "what the fuck is mozilla doing to us with this ai garbage?", but who then solicit or advocate jumping to another #Gecko variant, or [& these ones really make me roll my eyes] say they're now going to chrome coz why not... ffs.

for years i have actively also used / tested all the browsers named above [except chrome, never that pig-swill, but chromium yes], & also #librewolf, #waterfox, #tor ... & in all cases i find various UX & UI aspects that frustrate me so much that sooner or later i always return to my bespoke #FirefoxNightly .

for those willing & indeed interested in bothering, afaict we foxxers can still have our cake & eat it.

I switch between various #workspaces in #LinuxMint with shortcuts Ctrl+Alt+Num[1–9]. I used to do the same in Windows (using some utility I don't recall the name of) with Ctrl+Win+Num[1–9].

The nine workspaces show up in Expo with Alt+F1¹. One thing the Windows utility had was the option of having hidden desktops that didn't show up in the group overview. I wonder if there's any way to do that in LinuxMint?

[1] Renamed and reconfigured to outwardly match the "7-8-9 on top" orientation of the numpad, and not the "1-2-3 on top" default.

Still happily using #Floorp12 Beta as my daily browser, but made an important change last night. As a longterm #TST, then later #Sidebery, user & lover, the last several months of me deliberately forcing myself to use my #FirefoxNightly then more recently Floorp12 Beta profiles predicated on the native FF #VerticalTabs & #TabGroups has been interesting, yet filled with frequent regret, so invested have i been for years in the power of managing all my tabs in a sophisticated tree hierarchy.

FF native tab groups atm remain merely single-level, like Chromium & Vivaldi, thus far less powerful than either TST or Sidebery. I know from bitter experience last year with Floorp10 & Floorp11 that Sidebery is incompatible [due to the Floorp #Workspaces; not only do Sidebery's tabs not recognise/respect Floorp's Workspaces, because both softwares seek to control tab location, they severely clash, causing major browser instability & often tab loss]. Hence i've made no attempt to court further/similar disasters by trying Sidebery in Floorp12. So, last night i created a new profile in Floorp12 for use with TST, & that's what i'm now using. Though in Nightly i regard Sidebery superior to TST, in Floorp the reverse is true; the Floorp Dev/s seem to have taken particular steps to ensure TST compatibility, which thus integrate really well with Floorp's native Workspaces.

The one decided drawback atm of using this new profile however is that with TST active & native tabs hidden, there is no instant access to the important tab context-menu items for splitting-tabs, & moving them to other Workspaces. Fortunately, both those operations i need to use only rarely, so my clunky workaround, which would be untenable if i needed to do it dozens of times each day, is bearable albeit still irritating. When the occasional need arises to do either of those operations, i temporarily unhide the native tabs at the UI top, perform the requisite right-click ops on the applicable tabs, then re-hide said native tabsbar.

Floorp Daylight aka Floorp 12 Beta, Version 138.0.2@0.1.21 as available 11 hours ago at https://github.com/Floorp-Projects/Floorp-12/releases/tag/beta, has made a major jump forward in features & reliability.

• Now its #Workspaces seem to work, and survive restarts [older Betas failed on one or both of those]
• it now has native #MouseGestures and they work [so i can remove #Gesturefy]
• its native #WebPanels #Sidebar is less powerful than the #FirefoxSecondSidebar project, but is still excellent & highly usable
• its internal special Floorp settings page, now called Floorp Hub, has regained several [albeit certainly not all] of the fab #Floorp11 UI options

Atm the native #Firefox #TabGroups do not respect Workspaces, ie, persist across all of them, unlike ordinary tabs which now do stay in their respective WS. Thus my next focus of interest will be to see if coming Betas manage to fully integrate these Groups into the Workspaces.

TLDR: This latest Beta is such that i can now seriously consider the possibility of using it as more than just a curiosity, & as an actual daily browser.
