ZOMG, these keyboards are slaying me. Function keys in the wrong spot! Everything shifted to the left of the screen! Twice the mice! It's so weird to see how different it was 18 years ago with something that’s pretty standard on Lenovos now.
Anyhow though, the x300 with #LinuxMint seems like it’s working like a champ. I’m delighted.
Ok, Linux Mint with Cinnamon desktop on the Thinkpad x300, and it's mostly working well. The Thinkpad runs hot, makes it less ideal for lap use while watching TV, and the keyboard is SO SO clacky. Trying to decide if it's worth taking to the PC repair to see how much it is to replace the thermal paste and if that will keep it cooler. The keyboard is a little sticky from the "Windows Vista" and "Intel Centrino" stickers kinda sliding around. 🤣
The Ideapad I put #LinuxMint XFCE on. That was a bit of a trip because the power died during the first installation and oh man getting secure boot off to work around mok errors was ... a mess. It's nicely cooler, but awfully big (wtf is with having a number pad on a LAPTOP back then?!) And although almost everything is nicer with it, its battery isn't charging, so maybe there's a hardware problem there too.
All and all, they'd both make perfectly decent web browsing machines, which is mostly what I need.
After giving my Dad my old laptop with #LinuxMint to use a backup, I've now pulled two truly ancient laptops out of the garage to see if THEY work with Linux Mint on them. Because now I don't have a "to play with while watching reality shows" laptop anymore.
They're old enough that they a) could vote, and b) probably should have Linux XFCE on them, which I haven't done before. So, hey, adventure!

Downloaded Tuta and Linux Mint asked if I wanna integrate it to my desktop environment. Sounded like a thing I should do so I clicked yes. I don’t remember being prompted about that before with other AppImages. But now I have two Tutas listed in my apps. What is going on here exactly? @boilingsteam been using #linuxmint which is #Ubuntu based and its been my daily driver for a few years now and its been good for gaming on since I mostly play single player games or retro emulation

Reinstall of Linux Mint was a success, so far the laptop has been behaving normally. Going to run it through it's paces again and see if there is anything abysmally wrong this time too.
