The mature plants yield sweet tubers, fibres for coarse, waterproof fabrics, and leaves for chewing - local belief is that anyone chewing them cannot drown.
3 months later rubbery plants stand in the field, drooping with red flowers and, on the night of the full moon, sinuous fish wriggle up the beach and mate with the flowers.
Later those fish will birth more of the orange seeds. For now, villagers walk with the fish back to the sea. They play festival flutes to ward off the scavengers that hunger for the fish.
A woman wades into the salty waves as the wind whips her hair out of its bun. She casts a much patched net and, after a few tries, draws up a catch of half a dozen bright orange pebbles.
An hour's fishing later she has caught thirty. She hauls the bucket up the sands to her field. She digs holes and plants each orange globe in its spot.

Castrovel, where the mushrooms grow like trees, and the trees grow like skyscrapers. In such a vital, abundant environment what wonders evolve, grow, and live, and what terrors?
I've previously talked about the Zellavya - the Darkfloor biome under the megadandra-trees' boughs, where sunlight never shines. I like the thought of some kind of bioluminescence breaking the darkness. Maybe these giant mushrooms use it to attract pollinators? Or maybe to attract prey?
