#DunsPlayfest was brilliant this year. The website splash page now has links to a couple of reviews and a couple of short videos created by our team of young (paid) interns.

If you have a new play that you want to see staged, let us know.

Four was too many. She sat on a pillow, and stared at the plate on her lap.

But which one should go?

A light breeze came through the open window, plotting in her favour when clouds moved over the blue sky, giving way to a sunbeam illuminating one of the berries on her plate.

That one!

She picked it up, and ate it.

The others she gave to the three sparrows peacefully waiting on the window sill.

Congratulations to all the Locus Award Finalists! So awesome to see some of my favourites nominated!

And, of course, I'm absolutely thrilled the non-fiction collection I'm a part of received a nomination too!!

the more I write, the more I not only understand, but worry about the joke of FBI people investigating authors because of their search history.

I need your 🧠s to figure something out.

Given a modern US with 1800s style slavery, attitudes towards slaves, & also having free states & slave states‡.

Assume protagonist is running an underground railroad. How the eff do the slaves find out about it?

‡ anti-bigoted book, slaves also aren't black people.

@IanDSmith

" ...the liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerated the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than the democratic state itself. That in its essence is fascism: ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or any controlling private power." - FDR, 1938

I'm printing this out. Great explainer. Very clear.

Found this on Bluesky (via @jendiagammon) and it looks useful. I wanted to bookmark it, but Bluesky doesn't have that feature yet, so I'm sharing it over here so that I, and anyone else in the Mastodon #WritingComunity, can bookmark it.

We tend to wrap trends around bestsellers to make sense of them, but when viewed over time, what many successful #books share is not their genre but how their virtues can be easily communicated to a wide audience. buff.ly/3CbXN0J

I just finished reading it and, while midway I wasn't sure where it was going, the journey turned out to be as good as the destination.

"The thought was this: that all my life had been murk and depths, but I was not a part of that dark water. I was a creature within it."
― Madeline Miller, Circe.

Do to a YouTube reaction video I watched today I had an idea.
The group reacting doesn't believe in the supernatural they don't want to rule it out entirely but have hard time in believing most stories especially if evidence against the story can be seen in the video they watched.
They also come up with sometimes ridiculous stories why a ghost did something and so the required the nick name Ghost Mobber...
Now to the idea
Imagine a story in a world where ghosts exist in all varieties but no one likes them and instead of bringing them peace instead people are called to piss the ghosts off until they leave the haunted area.

Updated my old blog today. I'm writing to the end of the year, my personal goal is 100k and I have till Dec. 31st. Because it's just a spreadsheet and me and a nifty counting site that's pretty bear minimum instead of NaNoWriMo this year.

Just finished reading a first novel from a friend I worked with at Western Digital. I was worried when I started - wayyyy too much techy detail from the 1970s & 80s, but DAMN.... get past that slow opening and it is a brilliant book.

I've been giving feedback throughout, with a glowing final summation and couple of style suggestions. Looking forward to seeing this one published.

I feel that there should be a #writingnerds tag.
