If I have to name one smart home product I'm constantly annoyed of it's definitely the IKEA STOFTMOLN.

It's extremely slow (sometimes needs up to 1½ seconds to react on good days it's still way above half a second), the minimum brightness is still extremely bright and it's quite stuttery when fading to the off state.

I don't know if it's the product itself or if it's only with #HomeAssistant, but it's the same with #ZHA and #Zigbee2MQTT with two different dongles.

Sadly it's the light in my hallway where I have three of them and sometimes the light goes on after I left a segment already.

I definitely can't recommend them.

Is where a #howto to get a #conbeeIII work with #zigbee2mqtt ?

I always got back to the “onboarding screen” and cannot see anything in my #MQTT explorer.

I bought a #AqaraW100 and the implementation in #ZHA is really poor.

@Gjoel When pairing a new device, I only make a router near the device available for pairing. I use #Zigbee2MQTT. I'm not sure if that is possible in #ZHA.
Over time, however, I have noticed that some devices move to other routers or the coordinator. However, they still keep a connection to a reasonably good router.

Went to #Ikea today and bought a few of the newer #zigbee devices for use with #homeassistant #zha.

The Inspelning Plug with watt meter works perfectly as expected and is just €2 more than a Tretakt without power metering.

The Somrig shortcut button‘s two buttons send separate events for short/long/double press, that’s six actions that can be triggered in home assistant out of the box. Nice.

I finally was able to move the last devices from #ZHA to #Zigbee2MQTT.

It all started in April when #HomeAssistant 2025.4 had a rare bug that made some Zigbee devices unresponsive, when you have a lot of them. To this day the bug isn't fixed.

Right about this time I heard about the #SMLIGHT SLZB-06, a Zigbee stick that works independently of the device and connects via Ethernet.

So I bought it and placed it in the center of my flat. From there on every time I had a bit time I moved some devices. It's great that you can use ZHA and Z2M together in Home Assistant and it just works.

Yesterday I moved the last light to the SMILGHT stick and unplugged my old SONOFF stick.

I was able to update to Home Assistant 2025.8 and everything works perfectly. Better than it ever worked with ZHA. And I have more usable entities per device.

More details…

It’s very simple device. You can set the temperature in #HomeAssistant or on the device with the wheel.

The temperature sensor is not exposed as sensor, so I had to create a helper in HA.

We will see how it’s going to operate during winter, but I have already ordered standalone temperature and humidity sensors for each room to make it more accurate.

#SmartHome update!

I’ve added yet another #Zigbee device to the list (it’s now 34 devices)…

This time, I’ve got one #Sonoff #TRV #thermostat to test it out as a replacement for outdated bluetooth #Eve #EveEnergy

A few things come to ming after 2 days:

- the valve adapters are way better than Eve’s
- it’s chunky
- takes 3 batteries

It was easy enough to set up and pair - works with #ZHA. The display is clear (comes out blue only on photos, it’s white).

The SLZB-06M is a Zigbee coordinator with Ethernet, PoE, and web UI — well-suited for Home Assistant (ZHA) and advanced use cases.
This article covers its architecture, integration options, and how to enable Zigbee traffic sniffing via Wireshark.

ok now I've learned more about #Zigbee, #HomeAssistant thanks to helpful people replying to this thread - I've learned that Zigbee 'integration' with HA using something like the ZBT-1 Zigbee 'coordinator' requires me to setting it up as either #ZHA or #Zigbee2MQTT. Some devices might work better on ZHA, while others on the latter.

With one (USB) coordinator, I can only use/set it up as either one. If I choose ZHA, Zigbee devices (that I thought would work/be compatible with anything Zigbee) that don't work well with ZHA would be useless for me - vice versa. For example, this article I linked details a IR blaster I wanted to buy, cos.. 'Zigbee', but apparently it only works well with Zigbee2MQTT - if I accidentally bought something like this, and have set up my Zigbee coordinator on the Pi with ZHA, I might be 'SOL'.

Am I getting this right? Does that mean every device/appliance I'm buying going forward, I have to just.. do more research and hope it's either reviewed by someone (on this matter), or specified by the vendor (i.e. if it'd work on ZHA/Zigbee2MQTT)?

I'm in the process of switching from #ZHA to #Zigbee2MQTT and I'm really impressed by how much better everything is.

I know many people say this for a while, but after years of ZHA it's surprising what I've missed. Especially for some devices that exposed much less entities to Home Assistant via ZHA.

Suddenly I have so much more data about my home that I can not only see but also use for automations. Suddenly I can control stuff about some devices that were never available via ZHA.

I'm glad that I'm also switching the Coordinator in this process as it costs an unexpected amount of time to do this, as I have to update automations, the dashboards etc.
But in this process I can clean up so much stuff I did wrong in the last months and years.

I have some #MQTT entity in #HomeAssistant with customized entity names.
How can I, without directly selecting that entity, get the entity by-function from the device?
MQTT topic is "temperature_sensor_select".
Also: Generically, so this should also work with #ZHA, instead of #Z2M.
In an automation, with a device-filter, how can I select an owned entity by-function?
This is everything I got.

Why did I decide to ditch traditional PIR movement detection and move to 60 GHz radar-based presence detection? Because battery-powered PIR are pain in the ass. I tried various zWave and Zigbee devices over a time-span of 10 yrs. They all suck - earlier or later.

Hmmm …

🤔 (So, jetzt bin ich erstmal still. 😂)
