Here’s another #Heart geode, this one a type of classic geode where the interior space is filled with crystals AND there is a delightful added mineral crystal form to these amethyst geodes, often calcite. This piece was likely pricy and on the top shelf. The lighting made it very attractive. Only one more #ValentinesDay geode to share and that will be later. Half of a geode sliced and prepared very carefully to not dislodge the pale yellow calcite cluster of large crystals. The entire specimen is about 22” wide and the calcite is about 4” across with 8 petals as it looks like a flower cluster to me. The main crystals are reddish purple amethyst with some near the op more deep purple.

Large amethyst geode cut in half to show the cavity is filled with dark purple crystals. The outer edge of the matrix stone is gray and the left side also has a blob or patch of green malachite intruding into the heart-shaped interior. These are large crystals about 3/4” to 1” wide and come to the classic points. Marcus Budil gallery.

Same location as previous photo this geode is a bit wider and more distinctly heart-shaped. About 36” wide and 28” tall. This geode also has some green malachite on the left at the edges it’s not the same specimen. There were about 19 enormous geodes in this part of the gallery, all on heavy black stands with black decorative rope defining the area.

@much more vertical. The matrix at the edge is thicker than others and has more bands of color definite yellow, tan, green. A lot of contrast in the edge. Super dark in integrity.

Lots of these I photographed in Tucson this last week! This large geode about 30” wide and 34” tall was displayed clasped in a tall brass standing display about 5’ off the floor. Anyone could walk up. From the TCC showcase yesterday, edited to share only the geode “heart”, 2 versions. I even made phone stickers of these that work with text messages. #Heart #ValentinesDay

The outside “crust” of the geode matrix is a mix of yellow tan on bottom, but has greenish gray around the top of the piece. Rocking out again. I worked myself into a purple haze this morning staring at all the amethyst and grape chalcedony photos I got, mostly at the Marcus Budil gallery at Tucson Gem & Mineral show venues at Mineral City. I edit them to appear as I saw them, I think “true to life”.

Here are a few and a lot will just go into my Flickr album so @theropologist doesn’t get rattled by a heavy load on the beige party server! Reminds me I want to pass on another donation to the server funds—recommending donations go to support your own servers!

Closeup of large amethyst crystals in a large vug displayed on its back due to the massive size as big as a person lying down and holding their knees in close. This view catches a blue reflection of the sky since it was positioned just inside the open gallery doors. Crystals are about 1-2” at widest and about 1 to 1 1/2” tall from base to points. They are mostly the characteristic deep purple with deep bluish purple to warm reddish purple. If the specimen is exposed to too much sunlight most of the time it will fade.

Grape chalcedony is a nickname for chalcedony of this form that looks like a large cluster of tiny grapes. This specimen in center focus is from Indonesia. It is mauve, a color that is pink to light grayish purple. Other 7 pieces show in the image from the display on glass shelves.
