"Canada has been no stranger to weather bombs this season. British Columbia is in the midst of its second bomb cyclone in one week—another intense storm hitting the same areas affected by hundreds of thousands of power outages just days earlier.
"While B.C.’s second storm won’t grow as strong as the first, another storm out in the Atlantic Ocean could rival that first storm’s monstrous strength.
"Storm Bert is brewing in the northern Atlantic Ocean, and it’s got its eyes set on the British Isles heading into this weekend.
"The storm’s minimum central pressure is expected to drop a whopping 40-50+ mb in just 24 hours. This swift strengthening would more than double the criteria needed for bombogenesis, the process of rapid intensification that creates a bomb cyclone."

So, last Monday, November 25, I had to go pick up someone at SeaTac airport. When I left my phone had no service, but i thought "Hey, bomb cyclone, maybe my local tower is out. I'm GenX—I can go places without a phone! Anyway, the airport is likely to have service. If not I'll walk in and find them at baggage claim like the old days."
Phone service resumed just as I got to the airport; pickup went smoothly. I was told: "I called a couple times but it went straight to your voicemail." Replied: "Yeah, service was out. Bomb cyclone, I guess."
Friends, it is now December 2. Guess what voicemail I *just* received.
At least it's dated correctly.
Did the deed. It wasn’t nearly as bad as I thought. The worst was that a frozen banana thawed, got squished, and merged with the meltwater in the freezer. But there aren’t new alien species growing in my fridge, at least.
Drinking lots of coffee today to push through today’s “make the apartment less overwhelming” task list. Thank goodness the sun is out to provide another pick-me-up.
About to head back into my apartment for the first time since The Great Power Outage. I am honestly dreading facing the eldritch horror that is my fridge. Wish me luck… #seattle #BombCyclone
