At last, today the Insurer's cleaning company is going to clean down and decontaminate all the pavements, patios, drive etc, 7 weeks after the flood. Just as well it's been so cold, a natural anti - nasty microorganism retardant. #Flood #StormBert

Europe's weekend #BombCyclone to rival B.C.’s intense storms

Dennis Mersereau
Fri, November 22, 2024

"Canada has been no stranger to weather bombs this season. British Columbia is in the midst of its second bomb cyclone in one week—another intense storm hitting the same areas affected by hundreds of thousands of power outages just days earlier.

"While B.C.’s second storm won’t grow as strong as the first, another storm out in the Atlantic Ocean could rival that first storm’s monstrous strength.

"Storm Bert is brewing in the northern Atlantic Ocean, and it’s got its eyes set on the British Isles heading into this weekend.

"The storm’s minimum central pressure is expected to drop a whopping 40-50+ mb in just 24 hours. This swift strengthening would more than double the criteria needed for bombogenesis, the process of rapid intensification that creates a bomb cyclone."

I'm wondering at what point could I consider a claim against my home insurance company for my mental health deterioration, due to their lack of appropriate action to clean up after a flood that was over two weeks ago. #Mastodon #Fediverse #flood #StormBert

@hanktank61 My neighbourhood was flooded during #StormBert I had flooding in studio and garages and a little underfloor in the house, my neighbours were worse hit and most have had to move out. No clean up done by Insurance company yet, so all the debris that I had managed to get out was blown around by #stormDarragh. It's raining again in South Northamptonshire. Sigh.

I fear that there will be a lot of trees fallen, damaged and felled as a result of #stormDarragh across Wales, Ireland and Western England 😟 😪

all the trees in our garden and that I can see from the house seem to be surviving, which is more than can be said for the pine tree in next next door's garden, which was felled by #stormBert only two weeks ago

This map says that and have relatively low risk. If the damage from is "low risk" you'd hate to see what high risk entails.

"More than half (52%) of people polled said their homes weren’t equipped to deal with the impact of flooding or extreme heat, a lesser-known risk that can cause cracking and subsidence. Nearly half of the participants admitted they had never checked if their home insurance would cover extreme heat impacts."

November 2024: -
Another mild and wet month, dominated by seemingly endless anticyclonic gloom during the first half.
A cold snap with widespread snowfall on the 21st was followed 2 days later my #StormBert, the strongest winds of the year and temperatures not far short of 20°C! #StormConall quickly followed bringing the second wettest day of the year and severe flooding to much of Southern England.
December looks set to continue in much the same vein. #UKWeather mastodonapp.uk/@wessexweather/

There have been some seriously tough kilometres this month — November threw plenty at me: sub-zero temperatures, snow, ice, #StormBert, and #StormConall. A run-in with gluten at the start of the month added to the challenge, with fatigue, nausea, headaches, joint pain and more (thanks, #CoeliacDisease).

At times this meant a gentler pace, a couple of extra rest days, and shorter distances when needed — but I kept going. And that’s the main secret to #running… just…keep…going!

November looked like this:
Distance: 229km (142 miles)
Longest run: 11.72km (7.28 miles)
Average run: 9.40km (5.84 miles)
Average pace: 5:16/km (8:29/mile)
Fastest km: 4:31/km (7:16/mile)
VO₂ max: 50.0

@EarlOfEdgecombe The #Brent is rather swollen this morning from all the #StormBert runoff, today. #Brentford

A view from a bridge, taken from a bicycle with a puppy in the front basket, showing a narrow boat slip that used to be a maintenance area in Brentford Docks. The water is exactly up to the level of the pavement, showing only the tiniest surface at the moorings of some boats.A view of the locks at Brentford Dock, with apartment buildings behind. The water is swollen to the top of the lock gates, and is spilling through the runnels cut into the tops of the things.

Shelagh Fogarty speaks to Guardian Columnist and Environmental Campaigner George Monbiot as commuters face rail and motorway disruptions, after Storm Bert caused flooding across the UK.
Communities in England and Wales are starting a "massive clean-up" after torrential rain and widespread flooding from Storm Bert over the weekend.
Residents in affected areas have said they do not believe the chaos will by cleared by Christmas, as the Environment Secretary said the UK's flood defences were in the "worst condition on record".
Hundreds of homes were left under water, roads were turned into rivers and winds of more than 80mph were recorded across parts of the UK.
At least five people are thought to have died."

Oldwalls Gower Saves Couple’s Dream Wedding Amid Storm Bert Chaos

Nestled in the heart of the Welsh countryside, Sant Ffraed House is a luxurious Grade II-listed Georgian venue with stunning views of the Brecon Beacons. Known for blending timeless elegance with modern style, it has quickly become one of South Wales’ most sought-after wedding destinations.

When flooding left staff unable to reach the venue, Oldwalls organised a 4×4 convoy from their sister site, Fairyhill in Gower. The team not only brought reinforcements but even collected the registrar en route to ensure the ceremony could go ahead.

Despite a 90-minute delay, Shannon and James exchanged their vows in a ceremony that proved resilience and teamwork can overcome even the toughest of obstacles. The couple, alongside their suppliers who stayed on-site throughout the day, were determined to ensure their celebration was a success.

Shannon Glasspool said:

“We’ve waited our whole lives for this day, and despite everything, it turned out even more magical than we could have imagined. The Oldwalls team went above and beyond to make sure we had the wedding of our dreams. We’ll never forget how special they made it.”

Nigel Hole, Director of Oldwalls Collection, said:

“We understand how important a couple’s wedding day is, and we are committed to making it perfect, no matter the challenges.

“Yesterday was a true team effort, and we’re grateful to everyone who pulled together to make Shannon and James’s day one to remember. Our thoughts are with the local community, and we hope residents and businesses affected by Storm Bert are able to recover swiftly.”

The couple’s day was supported by suppliers, including videographer Dan Pitman, photographer Patrick Partridge, and KB Styling, whose efforts ensured the event remained special despite the challenges.
