c2c is working with #Transport for #London (TfL) to resolve a technical issue affecting some contactless pay-as-you-go users. Since 8 June, passengers travelling between #c2c stations outside the Oyster Zone (beyond Upminster and Grays) and Fenchurch Street or Liverpool Street have been wrongly charged an extra £3 per journey. The issue is expected to be fixed by 29 June. Affected customers will receive automatic refunds from TfL—no action is required. The first payments will be processed this weekend. Journeys made up to 28 June will continue to incur the extra charge but will be refunded shortly afterwards. Only trips starting or ending at Fenchurch Street or Liverpool Street on c2c services from outside Zone 6 are affected. Other journeys, including those involving the Underground, are not impacted. c2c apologises for the inconvenience and thanks customers for their patience.

On 25 May 2025, South Western Railway’s services will move into public ownership under the Passenger #Railways Services (Public Ownership) Act 2024. Operations will be managed by South Western #Railway Limited, a subsidiary of DfT Operator Limited, which will eventually become part of Great #British Railways (GBR). This marks the first transfer under the new legislation, with #C2C to follow on 20 July and Greater #Anglia on 12 October. This step is key to reforming the railways, ending 30 years of fragmentation, and fulfilling the government’s pledge to prioritise passengers. While public ownership alone won’t solve all issues, it enables further integration of track and train under GBR. The Railways Bill, to be introduced this session, will formalise GBR and consolidate the industry into one organisation.

Just finished a C2C, Cleethorpes to Liverpool, via the Leeds - Liverpool canal. 239miles, 4.5 days.

Some sections of the canal would be tricky fully laden in the wet.

I loved the 1st 2 days, getting over the Humber Bridge and doing one of the really nice bits of the Trans Pennine before cutting accross from Selby to Leeds.
