Made the absolute most of our short #Philadelphia stint. Had a bunch of rad beers (#SecondDistrict, #Cartesian, #HumanRobot, #SourceUrbanBrewery, & #EvilGenius!), an excellent meal at #MiddleChildClubhouse, and pit stopped at old favorite dives during an epic 7-mile wander-walk around Center City and Passyunk (found bar bathroom selfies are always interesting to come across 🥴). Wicked fun, let's do it again!

@maonu From the abstract. "The new approach encompasses the old one, typically if “I” win, “the world” loses, i.e., wins “NOT”. When logical artifacts are identified with their own rules of production, LOCATIVE phenomenons arise. In particular, one realises that usual logic (including linear logic) is SPIRITUAL, i.e., up to isomorphism. But there is a deeper locative level, with indeed a more regular structure. Typically the usual (additive) conjunction has the value of categorical product in usual logic, and enjoys commutativity, associativity, etc. up to isomorphism."

First, the "linear" in linear logic refers to causality. Not ax+b.

"Spiritual up to isomorphism" is a very winter solstice sort of thing to say. Happy holidays! And don't worry, the days will start getting longer soon, here in the north.

The rest of what he says is the distinction between a #cartesian and a #monoidal product. The latter lacks projections.

Cartesian products represent things you can take apart and put back together. Monoidal products (despite that "disassembly is sometimes the best" -- The Expanse) usually can't be put back together.

This modern reinterpretation is less a coherent philosophy & more of a patchwork of #epicureanism, #Cartesian dualism, elements of the new age-y "law of attraction," undercurrents of toxic masculinity, as well as atomized individualism. I will show why neo-stoicism, or contemporary stoicism has betrayed its philosophical origins.

But the comparison is misleading..Jacques de #Vaucanson, the great artificer of the period, was concerned to understand the animate systems he was modelling.. in order to formulate and validate theories.. not to satisfy some performance criterion.

#creality #CR-10 Smart Pro.

I don't know, but currently, my #CR6SE is my daily driver, and it is working for me.

My only complaint is that the force sensor is sometimes just too weird to work with and sensitive to stupid external factors.

However, the auto-bed-leveling is so convenient, and I haven't had any of the manual-bed-leveling struggles that many beginners have with the #ender series.

The force sensor also makes it more difficult to mod the printer. Not allowing me to #3dprint most #opensource mods, because they are made for the #bltouch and #crtouch.

Finally, the speed is getting to me, and I would love to get a faster printer. But the price of a #voron is a bit too high and I don't have the time for it.

I really wish both #creality and #prusa brought out their own #corexy printers, rather than continuing down this path of #bedslingers and #cartesian printers.

Opinions? Would you get a non core xy today?

Dropping the last @Stata package of 2022! #treecluster.

This package allows users to plot #hierarchical data in both #Cartesian and #Polar #coordinates. Also features several customization options including line widths, smoothness, spacing etc.

@damonyoung for me it was a paper on #vonUexküll's importance to #biosemiotics that opened the door to #philosophy. Now, years later, I see our culturally biased #innenwelt as the key to #phenomenology - it's the most natural thing to conceptualize the #cartesian as a theorized form of innenwelt that is grounded in our #umwelt.

Anyone into 3d printing? I started with an Ender 3 Pro, but scored a FlashForge Dreamer from a thrift store. Sadly, it's out of commission now, but I don't see how I could ever go back. I was wondering if anyone had experience with anything better that CoreXY type printers...

It’s straightforward to calculate the #components of a #2D #vector given that you have a pre-defined set of #axes. Often, we talk about #cartesian #coordinates. If the vector changes, whether in #magnitude or #direction, we can calculate the updated components too. The converse question is what if the the vector is held constant and you change or #rotate the axes?

In this animation, you can see the components changing as the axes rotate.

LED Matrix Hack Chat

Join us on Wednesday, June 9 at noon Pacific for the LED Matrix Hack Chat with Garrett Mace!

It's pretty amazing how quickly light-emitting diodes went from physics lab curiosity to a mainstream commodity product made in the millions, if not billions. Everything about LEDs has gotten better, smaller, and cheaper over the years, going from an "any color you want as long as it's red" phase to all the colors of the rainbow and beyond in a relatively short time. LEDs have worked their way into applications that just didn't seem likely not that long ago, like architectural lighting, automotive applications, and even immense displays covering billboards, buildings, and sporting venues with multicolor, high-resolution displays.

It's that latter application that seems to have provided a boon to electronics hobbyists, in the form of cheap and plentiful LED matrix modules. These are easily sourced at the usual places, and with their tightly packed pinpoints that can show any color at any intensity, they have a ton of fun and useful applications for the hacker. But how exactly do you put them to use? Usually the electronics end is pretty straightforward, but some of the math involved in figuring out how to address all these LEDs can be a little mind-bending.

To help us sort all this out, Garrett Mace will drop by the Hack Chat. You've probably seen Garrett's cool LED matrix shades, which have gone through a ton of revisions and are a much-copied fashion accessory among the cool hackers. They look simple, but there are tricks to making them work right, and Garrett will share his secrets. Come with your questions on putting LED matrix modules to work, especially those odd-size modules and strange arrangements that defy simple Cartesian coordinates.

Our Hack Chats are live community events in the Hackaday.io Hack Chat group messaging. This week we’ll be sitting down on Wednesday, June 9 at 12:00 PM Pacific time. If time zones have you tied up, we have a handy time zone converter.

Click that speech bubble to the right, and you’ll be taken directly to the Hack Chat group on Hackaday.io. You don’t have to wait until Wednesday; join whenever you want and you can see what the community is talking about.

Arithmetic is the spelling bee of mathematics...

At a recent #Graduation#Party, somebody asked me, "What's <a big number> times <a different big number>?"
I answered, "I don't do #Arithmetic."Somebody else quipped, "aren't you the WNY-math-Guy or something like that?"
