I catastrophize
But I think it's a coping mechanize for when things don't turn out as bad
I catastrophize
But I think it's a coping mechanize for when things don't turn out as bad
CHORUS: But why
Be sure of the worst, and weep too soon?
[ΧΟΡΟΣ: μὴ πρόμαντις ἀλγέων
προλάμβαν᾽, ὦ φίλα, γόους.]

One of my daughters will #catastrophize everything.
Her: But what if X happens?
Me: I'll deal with it
But what if Y happens?
If it does, it does
But what if Z?
I'll cross that bridge when I get there
Do you even care?
Yes, but nothing has happened yet
She is getting annoyed and flustered
I'm totally calm
It frustrates the hell out of her but I don’t do this deliberately.
I deal with the now.
Not the if, maybe, possibly.
The Now.
Here.
You know, things are pretty bad, but I think doomscrolling isn't making it better. Social media tends to catastrophize things and make a lot of slippery slope arguments.
Yes, things suck. They are going to get worse. Much worse.
But the mind can only take so much dread.
Take care of yourself.

I find it easy to spot when other people are catastrophising, but it’s hard work spotting when I’m doing it. Had a mini crisis with my parents and Dad Alzheimer’s early this morning. Predicted all sorts of awful outcomes before I got my head together & went over and sorted it out. #alzheimer #catastrophize
