Chainalysis reports ransomware attackers received ~ $813.5M in payments in 2024, a 35% decrease from 2023’s total of $1.25B. They noted payment activity slowed in the 2nd half of the year.

Data show that the gap between ransom amounts demanded and those paid increased in the 2nd half of the year suggesting a majority of clients opted not to pay altogether.

📊 Chainalysis put out some data claiming that at least half of all TRUMP and MELANIA #memecoin “investors” never bought a token on Solana before and most of them hold less than $200 worth while 50 "whales" have made profits of more than $10 million each, strongly suggesting that the biggest suckers in the #TrumpCoin grift are the #MAGA voter base. Feels like #JustinSun made a deal with Trump to let him fleece the MAGA base and drain money back to #China.

I have some issues with #Chainalysis and suspect the data is actually even more damning than they’re saying… but I don’t have access to the data and what they’re saying is already extremely damning. (Kind of expect them to be forced to retract it by the company ownership because of the bad PR).

ChainAlysis reports that crypto crimes are becoming broader and more complex. Noteworthy, is the emergence of large-scale on-chain services providing infrastructure supporting illicit actors with crypto-laundering.

The estimate for total crypto crime in 2024 is approx. $51B which represents 0.14% of total on-chain transaction volume. This is a slight decrease from 2023, and likely underestimates the true total. On average, crypto crime is increasing approx. 25% per year. 63% of all illicit transactions involve stablecoins. Scams involving Bitcoin (BTC) have deceased since 2021.
