First heart shape I saw down at the Tucson shows, and it is a slice from a giant geode, not even amethyst crystals. This was outside lining the gallery at Mineral City. Large enough and heavy enough it needed an ironwork stand. It was raised up to eye level. Last geode post on “theme” for today. ❤️

Pale pink slab cut from a geode with an interior mostly solid but leaving a heart shape empty. Enlarge to see details of some clear and milky color quartz crystals outlining the edge of the slab in a tall 40” triangular oval, wider across the top. Some of the slab is more translucent to let the sunlight glow through the sculpture. It has small areas staining or tint of deep red here and there. The interior agatized mass of the large geode leaves a quirky heart shape space in the center. Gray cement block wall behind slab, sunny daylight reflects from the lower wall and some shadows fill upper section of wall.

Ah, another grape chalcedony specimen! I’m celebrating because in half an hour we are setting off on another rockin’ day adventure. To the world’s largest gem and mineral show, Tucson.

This is the first convention center showcase I’ve been to in about 6 years. And when I saw “we”, my son John agreed to come which means Drew gets to come too, with his wheelchair. So, a family adventure today, our “day-cation” 118 miles south. To do this, we have to have both I and John push Drew and wangle the 3 of us around thousands of people in the enormous center. We leave very early in hopes we can score accessible parking. This is EPIC!

This is how one of my iPhone photos looks on Flickr in one of my albums. Sometimes I wait a while befor I stare at an iPhone photo to see if I want to monkey with it a bit more in editing. I try really hard to present a photo in a faithful photo with true color as I saw it in the moment I took the photo. It’s mighty tempting to boost the color because over the years I see more and more people doing this. The saturation is too deep or contrast too sharp. Landscapes are tricky because so many use HDR to heighten a fantasy appearance far more magical than reality. Or maybe I’m just not validating when someone else is seeing the image super pumped up as their own reality. #MyPhoto #MyPhotography #iPhone #Chalcedony #Rock

Rocking out again. I worked myself into a purple haze this morning staring at all the amethyst and grape chalcedony photos I got, mostly at the Marcus Budil gallery at Tucson Gem & Mineral show venues at Mineral City. I edit them to appear as I saw them, I think “true to life”.

Here are a few and a lot will just go into my Flickr album so @theropologist doesn’t get rattled by a heavy load on the beige party server! Reminds me I want to pass on another donation to the server funds—recommending donations go to support your own servers!

Closeup of large amethyst crystals in a large vug displayed on its back due to the massive size as big as a person lying down and holding their knees in close. This view catches a blue reflection of the sky since it was positioned just inside the open gallery doors. Crystals are about 1-2” at widest and about 1 to 1 1/2” tall from base to points. They are mostly the characteristic deep purple with deep bluish purple to warm reddish purple. If the specimen is exposed to too much sunlight most of the time it will fade.Closeup of large amethyst crystals in a large vug displayed on its back due to the massive size as big as a person lying down and holding their knees in close.
