@meteoropole o link funciona.
"Server returned HTTP error code 401"

Channel cannot be cast to com.rometools.opml.feed.opml.Opml"

@woof I use and like #CommaFeed (CommaFeed.com). I think it's pretty beginner-friendly. No mobile app, but I use it as a progressive web app on Android, and it works beautifully.

@al3x I use a selfhosted #Commafeed for all my #RSS longings and wantings.

Trying #CommaFeed as an alternative to #Feedly .

I like its minimalist UI better, and its web app works fine (although I have a bug on #Firefox for #Android where the favicon is cut off when pinning the site to the home screen). I also like that I can sync my feeds via #Newsflash on #Linux.

I don't completely dislike Feedly, but I'm annoyed that I can't add feeds from #Reddit without signing in, and they're too invested in the #AI crap.

Just switched my rss reader from #freshrss to #CommaFeed. Fresh RSS was good, and feature packed, Even if I don't use it all, I liked having all the customisation in my hands. But, I decided to switch to CommaFeed. It feels a lot simpler, less customisation of feeds, no archive management/ automatic deletion and no PWA support (The one feature that I need the most above anything else :bunhdcry:). It claims to have Fever API support, but I couldn't get it to work on any mobile apps yet.

But sometimes, simplicity is all you need, and this is a prime example for me. Also, I kinda dig the much more modern interface compared to Fresh RSS.

What RSS Readers/ Feed aggregator do others use?

Edit: Forgot to mention FreshRSS and CommaFeed are self-hosted solutions.

@thekitmalone I try to use software that's libre and open source, so, while the ones on that list do their job, I'm happy with: commafeed.com

It's self-hostable or you can use their server for free, has all the features I need and, above all else, it isn't going to track me, insert ads, sell my interests and behavioral patterns to any of Trump's friends...

These days, I think, respect for the user should be a very valuable commodity, and CommaFeed has it 🙂

Did you know that you can follow Substacks via even if you don't subscribe to them in ? Just tried it with open.substack.com/pub/soulofth (via @GottaLaff), and it worked a treat. Get the good stuff without immersing yourself in the Substack swamp. I recommend .

I don't normally do this, and I know I should to it more, but I want to call out my favourite software project.

Commafeed

It's a #selfhosted #RSS news aggregator that was inspired by Google Reader.

When Google Reader closed down, I moved to feedly, but was never really satisfied with it. After a year or two, I looked at the Awesome-Selfhosted list of options -- I was establishing my own "data centre" at home for self-hosted services at the time -- and I considered the options. The one that stood out to me was #CommaFeed for a number of reasons:

  • It had a clean interface
  • it was simple to deploy (it comes with the option of an embedded DB, so I didn't need to maintain a separate database engine)
  • it came with an extension for the mobile 'phone app I was using for feedly (the name of which escapes me)

I downloaded and installed it, and set it up for me to access from whereever, and I have never looked back. Very shortly after starting to use it, I realised that the mobile app extension was unnecessary, as the UI was very good on mobile as well as on the desktop.

I have been using commafeed since about 2016/2017, without any problem (except for that one occasion where I messed up the database all by myself! but I was able to recover from it, and I learned an important lesson).

You can use it at commafeed.com/ without having to download or install it. If, however, you're interested in starting to host your own service, and if, like me, you believe news needs to come to you via a more stable channel than "social media", then commafeed might be a great way to dip your toe into this wonderful world.

Thanks to Jérémie Panzer (Athou) for the great work he's doing with #commafeed.

https://www.tbray.org/ongoing/ongoing.atom

"Timothy William Bray is a Canadian software developer, environmentalist, political activist and one of the co-authors of the original XML specification."

Well, that was a much more straightforward migration of my news software than I thought...

I had been using Miniflux as my RSS Aggregator for a few months now, and for some reason it randomly started failing to update my feeds (and stopped trying to).

Since I was not too fond of the GUI of both the WebUI and the app, I started looking for an alternative. I chose #CommaFeed, since I had tried FreshRSS in the past and didn't like it.

A quick search around led me to a two Docker Compose files I mashed up (plus some stuff of mine), an OPML import migrated all my feeds, and a few settings changed both on the server and on my reverse proxy allowed me to use ReadYou as my RSS reader on the phone using my existing external URL.

All in it took like 30 minutes, and most of that was because I first had to figure out why my original compose file was not letting the server save data after a Docker Compose down...
