A friend broke her foot and had surgery this afternoon. Went to the nearby Walgreens to pick up her prescriptions. They said there was a mixup. Another Walgreens was filling the order. They’d already billed insurance, so couldn’t transfer. Drove a couple miles, stood in line for 35 minutes and told it would be another 30-45 minutes before it was filled.

Happy I moved to an independent pharmacist a while back. Never a line, and I’m treated like an actual customer.

What decent treatment! I ordered a replacement laptop battery; badly needed, and damned useful. While Dell’s online instructions for my machine didn’t map to the actual design, I figured out how (dirt simple) to remove and replace the battery. It reached 100% charge quickly. The second or third day I used it, though, it registered zero charge. I happened to have shifted my laptop, and the battery was dislodged from the connector. When I lifted the machine, the battery dropped out. Wow.
I realized that the latch hadn’t closed fully. I tried and tried, but no luck.

I contacted the seller, LuronTeK, asking for a replacement or refund, and sharing an image of the non-closed latch. They were more than decent, more than fair. I won’t go into details. Eventually, I discovered that I had overlooked a non-obvious step in reinstalling the battery. It was fine. It is now snug, and doing its job. I apologized,, and they were more than cool about it. Damned decent.

So that was remarkably easy. The #Amazon AI chat bot identified the problem I was likely going to ask about and offered me a refund before I had to type anything at all. It then informed me that if the item ever shows up, I can return it with the label it generated onto my account or simply keep it and I would be charged for them. #AI really is going to take over #CustomerService jobs.

It wasn’t hard to hijack TransUnion credit reports. I did it to myself.

PIRG staff discovered that they could talk TransUnion’s customer service representatives into resetting passwords and changing account contact information with bare-bones proof of identity.

Unsolicited review:

After a dozen years in the sun, the plastic seed tube of this bird feeder broke while I was refilling it. I called the company, and they're sending me a new seed tube for only a $10 shipping charge. What a pleasant surprise!

When I was born, businesses bent over backwards to cater to customers. If a customer was mad about something, the customer was quickly satisfied. When your parents pulled up to a gas station, people in work uniforms rushed out to take your order. "How much gas today? Can I check your oil, water and tire pressure for you? Let me wash all of the glass, including the headlights, taillights, and side mirrors!"

Today, too many selfish owners of corporations don't give a damn what the customer thinks, and leave their Waymos all over the place, blocking emergency vehicles along with all of the other traffic. They run their death traps in a city with known severe earthquakes resulting in fires, but they just don't give a rat's ass about anyone or anything. They profit from corruption. Why should they care? You have to make them care.

They are capitalists in a fascist America. Deep down, all most of them care about is money, and how an internationally rigged marketplace makes them richer than King Midas ever dreamed of.

[Insert rant about how capitalism requires closed systems exploiting non-capitalists, and when you export capitalism "to the world" you necessarily wind up with fascism b/c now they have to dominate capitalists or invent bullshit to make their ever-growing pile of other people's money keep getting larger. God forbid they lose that pile, for they cannot function in any work environment in which you can.]
