@Daojoan That's part of the funny thing about using #darknets and #AnonymizingNetworks.

You'd think that the major focus on anonymity & privacy would detract from the intimacy or real-ness, but turns out it's closer to the old net and so the opposite happens.

@strypey @toolbear @latelesley @raineer @socketwench Not exactly, instance/server-centrism is embedded pretty deeply in #ActivityPub's core, and that assumption on the #clearnet has some immediate monetary consequences that #p2p programs with #gossip-spreading & first-class support for relays and diverse #networking & messaging transports (#darknets, overlays, #AsynchronousNetworking, etc) don't.

Both relays and p2p can be hacked on to some degree... but the seams are very obvious & fragile.

@AdrianVolt @mcc I'm actually hoping that massive corposcum's willful #enshittification alongside the impracticality of smaller corporate hosting will lead to mass abandon of the #clearnet for #FreeSoftware services on the various #darknets and #AnonymizingNetworks that can mitigate that liability.

If we're to give up on realism, then I would also hope it brings back the #P2P-first approach into the fore.

@iampytest1 @dalias @campuscodi So basically this is the same old "don't expose #darknet servers to the #clearnet" thing?

I'd be wary of even reusing the same server across different #darknets, and spinning up a VM for each is cheap-enough to do with little-enough hassle there's really no good reason not to do it.

I don't know, it looks like a song but I'm having a hard time coming up with a rhythm for it.

@nytpu It's worth noting that a better option yet than the private sites is to use #P2P #AnonymizationNetworks and #darknets, particularly #mixnet implementations.

They tend to be gratis, #FreeSoftware and better at complicating traffic & timing analysis.

@jz That hydra approach has gotten fairly popular lately on the various #darknets, I think applying it to the #clearnet might be a lot more expensive though.

It's not novel to do so per se, #C2 servers have done so for a while now, but for wide relatively-public use is less common.

@qurlyjoe I find that most fields tend to be fractally complicated, it only becomes obvious on looking closer.

#I2P, #mixnets and #darknets (the term became popular with tourist grifters lately too, but ignore those fools) are very much on the anonymity & privacy end of that with considerable tradeoffs in achieving those goals.

@jeffcliff It's been pretty clear to me that the web as it exists will not be an option in Canada for that much longer as our authorities are incapable of not giving in to their spy fetish.

Most #Darknets and #Mixnets we have are not really ready to take up the slack either as they generally don't have a design that accounts for global observers.

Tengo la impresion que el HW tiene problemas para trabajar con los algoritmos de cifrado, ya que son la escencia de las #darknets

Si mal no recuerdo hace algunos meses, se habia publicado un estudio, que hablaba que el conjunto de las #darknets ni siquiera llegaba al 0,1% del trafico total de la internet y que la cantidad de delitos comparativamente era 3 o 4 veces mas bajo en las #darknets, pues los crimenes (planificados) se realizan en su mayoria, incluso fuera de la internet.

Y no tengo ninguna duda, que #I2P y #Freenet serian tratadas de igual forma.

Aunque segun la opinion de un experto en TI del propio Estado aleman, "seria un gravisimo error colocar a Tor al mismo nivel de las #darknets".

Y yo me pregunto, ¿son las #darknets el problema o en realidad la falta de #libertad y -en realidad- el hambre que tienen los Estados por conseguir el control de la vida virtual de sus ciudadanos.

¿Por que #Freenet, #I2P y #Tor pueden proveer #privacidad?
La razon se deriva de su estructura misma. Todas las #darknets necesitan usar tecnologia o algoritmos de #cifrado para conseguir su objetivo de posibilitar el #anonimato.
Y como el cifrado es la base de la privacidad, automaticamente todas las comunicaciones en esas redes estaran protegidas.
