1968 Boise Airport Postcard - Note the ex-Bonanza Air Lines DC-9, which has moved through the AirWest system and is working an ex-West Coast route.

#Airwest #UnitedAirlines #BonanzaAirLines #DC9 #b727 #BoiseIdaho #Airport

This vintage postcard shows a bustling scene at Municipal Airport in Boise, Idaho—1968. The terminal complex stretches horizontally across the middle of the image, its clean mid-century design featuring long rows of windows and a control tower rising above the main building. The tower is painted a pale yellow and topped with antennas and radar equipment, giving it a distinctly Cold War–era airport look.

On the ramp in front of the terminal, several aircraft are parked in an orderly row. Three United Airlines jets—classic Boeing 727s in the airline’s 60's—sit side by side, their white fuselages accented with blue and red striping. Nearby is a bright-orange-tailed aircraft formally belonging to Bonanza Air Lines, instantly recognizable with its bold color and short-haul jet design. At the far right, a smaller turboprop from Air West sits near ground vehicles and service equipment.

The wide concrete apron occupies much of the foreground, with painted lines and markings subtly visible. Beyond the airport, a flat horizon stretches under a deep blue sky, suggesting a clear, dry Idaho day. The postcard captures a moment when regional airports were vibrant crossroads for multiple carriers, illustrating both the optimism and the aesthetic of America’s golden age of jet travel.
