Today's session on the 'tumor microenvironment' was filled with brillant talks by Leila Akkari (NL), Karin de Visser (NL) and Jan Böttcher (DE) at the CIMT 2024 meeting.cimt.eu/speakers-and-p
and adressed #macrophages #interleukins and #dendriticcells in #immunooncology #Immunology #Oncology @cyrilpedia @gpollara @association

@gpollara @JExpMed Intriguing. In an earlier postdoc position I had a look at , and especially the were abundant, but seemed to be just sitting in the inflammatory environment, doing little. One of the very abundant cytokines:

We also looked at the effect of that and other , but mostly on , among others due to the low abundance of cDC1 in HC blood to be able to do many in vitro experiments.

"Mechanistically, glycolysis augmented ATP production to boost STING activation and STING-dependent DC antitumor functions. Moreover, DC-intrinsic STING activation accelerated HIF-1a–mediated glycolysis and established a positive feedback loop."

In the middle of an excellent seminar in which Matthias Gromeier presented work on Cancer Immunotherapy with Recombinant Poliovirus, the Zoom session was ended and no luck from the organization's side to restart. 😭

The first 10-15min showed work linking back to original work and ideas from Albert Sabin and David Bodian. Specific targeting of and , response.

Hopefully they recorded the seminar.

The paper focuses on (DC) and from a local inflammatory site, in this case synovial fluid from swollen joints of mainly juvenile patients.
Very short: one type of DC were very much enriched but seemed relatively quiescent despite the inflammatory surroundings, while other DC and monocytes behaved clearly pro-inflammatory.

Last week, the paper based on my work in the Wilhelmina Children's Hospital (WKZ) was published, with the title "Conventional dendritic cells type 1 are strongly enriched, quiescent and relatively tolerogenic in local inflammatory arthritis".

Credits to Anoushka Samat for taking care of this after I left the department. Without her this work would not be out there. And of course thanks to the rest of the team.

Here goes the #dendriticcells merrily via #lymphatics taking antigens - the presents for #Tcells . Will they take them? What will they do? Best xmas card from #CellCartoons hope she comes to mastodon soon!

Dendritic cell deficiencies persist seven months after SARS-CoV-2 infection.

Even mild COVID depletes dendritic cells (pDCs) for seven months.

pDCs produce early anti-microbial defences that prevent severe RSV (and other) infections from taking hold.

Depleted pDCs mean we miss those early defences for months after mild COVID.
