Accessibility Zine Completed and Ready for Download
The Accessibility Zine my friend and I worked on is completed! I asked friends and members of the National General Strike group (they have an Accessibility affinity group) to review for errors and readability so I could revise and correct.
The Zine covers:
- Definition of Accessibility
- Definition of Ableism
- Various models of Disability (social model, medical model, rights model)
- Some history of Cross-movement organizing (Disabled miner strikes of the 1970s, Section 504 sit-ins in the 1980s, Capital Crawl for ADA in 1990s)
- Ten Principles of Disability Justice as quoted from Sins Invalid
- Spaces theory of Access — Physical space, Transportation space, Sensory space, Digital/Information space, Time-independent space, and Community space.
- There is tips for protests and infectious disease mitigations folded into the spaces theory section.
It perhaps is more accurately called a booklet due to its length. I wanted to give this overall view of the topic and frame it in the context of history and Disability Justice principles. Hopefully it helps people learn about Accessibility, how to center it, and why we should center it. When we raise the tide for one boat, all the boats rise too.
