Commedia arose in the 16th Century Italian Renaissance as a theatrical art form specializing in slapstick farce where actors often wore half-face masks to embody stock characters and improvise a full play using a brief outline scenario. Commedia would be an international sensation and pave the way for women to act openly on stage and has inspired theatre and entertainment for centuries since. Today we honor this amazing Italian cultural heritage that is at the core of our troupe!
