#foreclosures

There have never been enough living wage jobs in the US for every working age adult who needs one.

That's the way they suppress wages and oppress workers - by not staffing their businesses fully and making one person do the work of two or three.

The reason? So shareholders can get another couple of cents worth of dividends every quarter.

America now has more job seekers than available jobs now.

Chart showing total number of people unemployed (official govt number, not the real figure, which is based on wider criteria) from 2001 to 2025.

There are hundreds of thousands more unemployed people even by the chintzy US official figure than there are jobs - and that doesn't say anything about the crappy quality of a lot of the "available" jobs: sub-living wages, no benefits, ridiculous hours, etc.

"US job openings fell to 7.15 million in November, down from 7.45 million in the previous month, marking the lowest level since September 2024, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Job Openings and Labor Turnover Summary report released Wednesday."

According to the chart, by the US govt under-count, there are 7.8 million unemployed persons - meaning the real number is somewhere around 8.5 to 9 million un- and under-employed people. (Under-employed are people who want full time jobs but are instead stuck with part time jobs.)

"The figure came in below all economist forecasts in a Bloomberg survey and declined across most industries, with the biggest pullback seen in leisure and hospitality, healthcare and social assistance, and transportation and warehousing. Only a few industries, including construction and retail, added jobs."

Foreclosure filings rose again in October, marking the eighth straight month of annual increases, with nearly 37,000 properties affected—up 19% from last year. While still below historic peaks, this trend signals potential cracks in the housing market amid higher borrowing costs. Florida, South Carolina, and Illinois led, with Tampa, Jacksonville, and Orlando experiencing the most activity. Experts see this as a slow normalization rather than a crash, but persistent rise could hint at broader economic challenges ahead. Will this accelerate or stabilize? 6 October 1932, a "penny auction" took place in Nebraska during the great depression, in possibly the first use of this tactic devised by poor farmers. Across the midwest, many poor farmers were being kicked off their land by foreclosures. Local residents and radicals organised militant self defence to stop foreclosed farms from being auctioned off by bank agents and sheriffs.

“Nobody is helped by shutting down the agency, except #BigBanks, #ConMen & rip-off artists, oh & #billionaires like Mr. Musk, who is trying to start a new ‘#XMoney’ feature on his social media platform,” Sen #ElizabethWarren said at the hearing. “By eliminating the #CFPB, he would take the financial cop off the beat.”

In one of its final actions under the #Biden admin, for example, the #CFPB filed a lawsuit on Jan 14 against #CapitalOne, alleging the financial institution misrepresented its “360 Savings” accounts, effectively “cheating consumers out of more than $2B in interest payments.”

Recall how big businesses’ reckless behavior sent our #economy & the #housing market into a financial tailspin? People lost their #homes & #jobs. Fearing even greater declines, many investors cashed out of the #StockMarket, locking in losses they never recovered.

It took the #recession & a wave of #foreclosures before #Congress acted to require simpler mortgage-disclosure forms. That task was assigned to the #CFPB, the brainchild of Sen #ElizabethWarren (D-MA).

When harmed, the average #consumer often doesn’t have the #money to defend themself. Hiring an attorney is expensive. Rooting out deceptive predatory practices should be left to the #government, not a family trying to make ends meet.

Remember the Great #Recession?

During his first term, #Trump was hell-bent on eviscerating the authority of an agency that #Congress authorized to protect #consumers after the 2008 financial crisis. His choice to lead the agency in 2017 signaled his disdain: Mick Mulvaney, a fmr congressman who voted to abolish the #CFPB.

…But consumers needed then — & need now — a powerful advocate.

#Trump & #ElonMusk are working to decimate the Consumer Financial #Protection Bureau [#CFPB].

In early Feb, Musk posted “CFPB RIP,” …with a gravestone emoji.

Musk’s death march has begun. The number of #consumer complaints being processed by the bureau is significantly down, & several lawsuits against #financial companies were recently dropped.

"The judicial foreclosures were initiated for unpaid #HOA debts, not unpaid bank loans, and those debts were sometimes as small as a few thousand dollars before they ballooned w/interest, HOA attorneys fees & court costs.

...the process eats away at or completely erases generational wealth in a way traditional lender #foreclosures for unpaid mortgages, which are more common and involve much larger debts, may not."

Text:
A first-time buyer, he paid $267,500 in 2015 for the house on a cul-de-sac in the heart of Aurora. Bigus kept up on his mortgage and watched the value of the three-bedroom, three-bathroom property nearly double as Colorado real estate prices soared. He poured in sweat equity, too, using his construction skills to add personal touches...

But as Bigus built on his investment, he was also digging himself into an unrecoverable financial hole.

When he replaced his stolen debit card in early 2020, Bigus said he inadvertently stopped automatic payments on his monthly homeowners association dues. His debt to the Summerhill II HOA grew to $8,649.55 because of attorneys fees and interest. It was money he didn’t have.

Last year, the HOA filed for foreclosure. The house sold at auction for just $76,000. A few months later, the investor who bought the home sold it again for $520,000.

Bigus, 37, had to move back in with his parents. “I honestly thought someone was messing with me,” he said. “It completely destroyed me financially. It destroyed my life.”

Bigus’ property is one of more than 250 in Colorado that have been sold at a sheriff’s auction since 2018 for a fraction of their market value — sometimes less than 10% — after being foreclosed on in court by an HOA, according to a Colorado Sun analysis of thousands of court cases filed in the past six years. At least 100 HOA-foreclosed homes were auctioned off for $60,000 or less.

Rumored Fed Nominee Thinks Tim Geithner Did Right by Homeowners
President Biden may nominate Janice Eberly, former deputy to the mastermind of America’s foreclosure crisis.
