Saint Ninian Terrace in the Gorbals area of Glasgow. While this is a relatively new building (dating from the 1990s), it incorporates a number of classic characteristics of Glasgow's traditional architecture. This includes recessed corner bay windows, a lantern on a feature corner roof, and sweeping curved lines. If we could do this as recently as a couple of decades ago, why are so many new builds in the city now just generic boxes with no local flavour?

The Gatekeeper on Kidston Terrace in the Gorbals area of Glaagow. It was created by Matt Baker in 2002 to mark the 3rd complete rebuilding of the local area in the last 150 years. Made of bronze and twice life-size, as far as I know, it's the only suspended public sculpture in the UK.

Maud Sulter was born in Glasgow, of Scots & Ghanaian descent: her poem “Circa 1930” argues that these two cultures “are not as disparate as they might / at first seem. Clan-based societies / With long memories and global diasporas.”

There appears to be a time portal under a railway bridge in the Gorbals connecting modern day Glasgow to the American Wild West of the late 1800s!

The relief sculptures depict a crane hook with buildings behind it (top right photo), a miner's lamp with tower blocks in the background (middle right), and a beehive on an ionic capital (bottom right). However, for some reason, the last one always lòoks rather squid-like to me and reminds me of a larval stage of Dr Zoidberg from Futurama

A late Victorian drinking fountain on Cumberland Street in the Gorbals area of Glasgow, with modern relief sculptures by Jim Harvey based on local history filling the niches which once held water.

The fountain was originally installed in 1889 at the junction of Cathcard Road and Crown Road. When it was scheduled for demolition in 1989, it was rescued by Harvey, who created the relief sculptures and persuaded the council to move it to a new location.

Old branded access cover in the Govanhill area of Glasgow. A cursory search hasn't located R Morton and Son, but I presume they were plumbers. A deeper dive into the records should confirm this, but the site of their premises at 277 Ballater Street is now occupied by the Gorbals Leisure Centre.

From here, Twomax produced their upmarket knitwear which was sold by the likes of Selfridges, House of Fraser and Harrods. Their products were seen as being particularly fashionable in the 1960s and 1970s, but by the start of the 1980s the business was in decline and it soon closed. The building remained and is currenty being converted into residential housing.

The former Twomax factory on Old Rutherglen Road in the Gorbals area of Glasgow. Originally built as a cotton mill in 1817, it was taken over by Twomax, a Glasgow-based knitwear manufacturer, in the 1920s. Twomax was started in a disused pub in the Bridgeton by Hugh McClure and Donald McIntosh (the two Macs from which its name was derived), before moving to this location.

Former Georgian-era cotton mill on Old Rutherglen Road in the Gorbals area of Glasgow. Built in 1817, it's the oldest surviving iron-framed mill building in the city, and possibly the whole of Scotland. It was originally owned by the cotton Spinner Robert Humphrey and then by Robert Thomson of the nearby Adelphi Cotton Works. It's currently in the process of being converted into residential accommodation.
