What is it with #templating languages and math? Does a string-injecting system _really_ need full-blown mathematical operator set? I’m looking at multiple templating langs, and they all seem to be far from an optimal state where the emergent behavior appears:

- #Liquid: No math, relies on #JavaScript and benevolence of #Shopify / #Microsoft

- Liquor (by @whitequark): Includes math and lots of operators in general, too powerful to be interesting

- #Handlebars: require #JS

- #Mustache: No arguments to partials, thus no abstraction and data passing

- Server Side Includes: Have everything I need, but are #Apache -specific in many ways

Uuuuuuugh. I would’ve gone with either of these for my website and day-to-day programming, but I don’t want to commit to either an explicitly Turing-complete system or non-portable JS-heavy one.

I guess I’m still staying with #ed (1) until the state of templating improves. Or until I write a #Lisp version for any of these, likely SSI.

I just released the first, experimental, version of Haparanda, a new pure-#ruby #handlebars parser. This gem's main goals are implementation of the full handlebars feature set and, most importantly, fast parsing. It uses Ruby's rexical lexer and racc parser with lightly edited upstream handlebars lexer and parser definitions

It's a really joyful environment to work with. I'm finding it far easier than last time, a combination of much improved compiler errors, clippy guidance, #VSCode also seems to have improved understanding of the code (I'm not using #AI just Rust-Analyser and Even Better TOML
Plus I'm building depth rather than width, fits much better for exploration and learning.
The amount of syntax feels much reduced :-)

My old racing bike is back in action, with "new" bright yellow bar tape.

The "new" bar tape is actually nearly as antique as the bike: It's Ambrosio "professional" Bike Ribbon from the 1980s/90s which has been hanging around since I bought it from someone at the Mildenhall bike rally 20 odd years ago, until I fitted it in a slightly less than professional manner today.
