Final round of studying for my #IBEW aptitude test tmrw morning... All I have to say is those #numberseries puzzlers might be my undoing. Depending on how creative you want to be, there's more than one solution to some of the problems. Also, f*cking Fibonacci sequence might be on there-- and if it is, then that's the correct answer.

Reading some posts on #Reddit about the #NJATC aptitude test and process of getting into an #electrical #IBEW apprenticeship... The attitudes that come across remind me a lot of the #premed students I prepped microbiology labs for in college and grad school.

Many prided themselves on achieving the best test scores-- their arrogance was off-putting to me, I imagine it shone through in their interviews.

Very few of them actually became MD's, and the few I really liked would become DO's.

#CareerChange update:

I just finished up a basic intro to house #electrical repair class at Portland's Rebuilding Center, complete with a little wiring exercise connecting an outlet to a switch to a lightbulb.

I confirmed there isn't a great free study guide for the aptitude test, but some $30-50 courses are well worth it. #IBEW recommends Iprep.online so I'll probably go with that one.

I'm still volunteering with #Habitat_for_humanity and will be working on a house build in August. 🛠️

Heya Fediverse-

Does anyone have any recommendations for study guides or practice exams for the #IBEW #aptitude test? My understanding is it's mostly algebra and reading comprehension, and it weighs heavily into how applicants are ranked for placement into apprenticeships. I have the test scheduled in about a month and want to get the best score I can.

Has anyone recently done a #careerchange into the #electrical trades in the US? I checked my local #IBEW website for clues, there's some phone numbers and a few local meetings that look informative.

In #science world, I took a class or two at school and then interned (or volunteered) with an agency, lab, or organization to get a "foot in the door". This was usually a low paying entry level gig leading to other low paying opportunities. Eventually I went into IT, and then my eyeballs fell out.
