Kiam starante kun via dorso rekte al la vintro suno, vi povos fiksrigardi glaciarkon tie, kie kaj via propra ombro kaj la montara ombro, renkontiĝas.

[epo] Starante sur neĝokovrita montopinto kun la dorso turnita al la malalta suno, tre tre longa ombro ĵetiĝas de oniaj kruroj laŭ la skivojo al la valo sube, kiu estas kovrita en maro da nebulo, kie aliaj montoj aperas kiel insuloj. La glaciaj kristaloj de la malaltaj nuboj kreas kompletan cirklan ĉielarkan aŭreolon. Glaciarko.

[eng] Standing on a snow covered mountain top with ones back to the low sun, a very very long shadow is cast from one's legs down the ski piste toward the valley below that is covered in a sea of fog where other mountains apear as islands. The icy crystals of the low clouds create a complete circular rainbow halo. An icebow.

Some lovely icebows today! These were very close to the late sun in the afternoon. Maybe 10 degrees off. Pretty sure it wasn’t 22 degrees. Wonder what shape the ice crystals were?

$Looking at subtle pink and green highlights in remnants in relatively low cumulus clouds moving fast with strong cold winds from the north east. The coloring is from light diffraction though ice crystals in a similar manner to how a rainbow forms.$

Apparently this is an #icebow, formed by light refraction through ice crystals instead of rain, as in a rainbow. Google says they're rare, but I've seen quite a few over the years. I saw one around the moon the other day. Sometimes called a gloriole (oh dear, checks spelling)
