So, I *think* I have a fix for this lua, I am going to add to my lazyvim forks and for snacks.vim, fix it, use mine and submit upstream.
Also, if I install stylua with pkg none_ls will find it and it doesn't matter that it doesn't compile
#lazyvim #snacks #neovim #freebsd #runbsd

I'm just a man, looking at someone else's lua code and wondering why the neovim libuv callback is getting a nil file :( #neovim #lazyvim #freebsd

Looks like I'll be using Trouble to debug...

OK, I have the forks of #lazyvim and the starter up, i've made the modifications for my stuff to pull in ... my stuff, and i've removed the lua_ls ... an that failure is done.
I might add the "reset nvim" script i wrote too.

Now I'll move my nvim plugins from my other config, maybe add a rust lua server, and see where we get
#runbsd #freebsd

ok, LazyVim and LazyVim starter "migrated" to brew.bsd.cafe ( why not? ). Let's see if I can get time to do it. #runbsd #freebsd #lazyvim

ok, new plan, i'm going to create my own lazyvim fork and hack it until it works on freebsd
#runbsd #freebsd #lazyvim

One super disappointing thing about my #freebsd setup is that #lazyvim is messed up. I really don't want to write the config by hand ( even with guides ), but I guess I have to, because I need it.

Redid my #neovim config to keep up with the times (I used many deprecated
plug-ins, and didn't use #lua).

I haven't the faintest idea what I'm doing, I just followed a tutorial, got #lazyVim, and a few plug-ins, and I am utterly stomped by how to set up the #python lsp, especially as I want to include #mypy type checking.

The duality of #documentation is that I either get a tutorial that explains nothing and expects you to copy paste, or a manual that goes waaaay over my head.

@chringel I’ve been entertaining same idea for a while now, especially as #LazyVim diverges from my needs (though, TBF, it’s still quite flexible). How do you like it so far? Is there anything you miss from Lazy?

I ditched #LazyVim in favour of #kickstart.

Feels like I have control over my #neovim config again.

@cryptomilk have some great distributions but I still think that if you want to start with Neovim, start with creating your own config. Because it'll force you to not only use it but also learn it 😊.

I am not a software developer. I like to tinker. More so recently as I've been really digging in to Python.

Although VSCode is fine (really) and probably the right choice for almost everyone - I have to say that fighting through the (often frustrating) hump of getting nvim up and running as an IDE has been immensely satisfying. Especially when paired with tmux.

It doesn't hurt that working that way offers the major bonus of making you feel like a serious l337 haxx0r once you start getting into the rhythm and fully commit to vim motions.

@ringtailringo Blink is your autocompletions plugin and Snacks, it is a collection of various plugins that affects your GUI.

@asltf If you don't have experience with then how are you going to code in it (you could still do it, after all it's just a text editor, but not productively). You should at least need to know how it is configured. You could use existing distributions like, , , , , etc. Or, if you got time, create your own config -> youtube.com/playlist?list=PLsz

@asltf Overall I find lazyvim to provide a more feature rich start than spacemacs but expect things to break quite often. #spacemacs #lazyvim

I was looking into yesterday (have a config I've not touched for some time) Some general thoughts:
- Neovim still looks good, is still fast, navigating and changing code is a pleasure.
- Ecosystem bikeshredding is just on another level - I have not touched nvim for a year and I have no idea about half of the packages. Blink, snacks, what is all this? My thoughts are that maybe the provided level of abstraction is too low and offloads everything to packages.

Although there are some fantastic distributions out there (like , , , etc.) that provides everything out of the box but, I still prefer creating my own config. It makes me feel that everything I do is in my own control, every plugin, every keymap.

What y'all think about this ?

Eureka 🥳

I've now got Neovim :neovim: using #LazyVim working really nice. Including the Python :python: LSP showing errors for not installed libraries. Awesome!

And yes, I do prefer #Tokyonight as color scheme.

Now it's time to do something about that ugly looking green #tmux bar on top...

Hello #fediverse

I am happy to report I have managed to migrate to #LazyVim from my custom #nvim config.

The major pain point for me was that Konsole was screwing up my keybindings:
1. It translated `Ctrl+/` to `Ctrl+_` (this took me so long to figure out, thank you r/neovim)
2. I never got to register "Ctrl+`" keybinding for toggling terminal. (This is originally done by (1) but this is something I use in VSCode so I needed it)

Alas, I gave in and installed #Alacritty and all my problems have vanished. I also managed to customize it a little.

Now, I need to figure out how to manage the dotfiles!! Any ideas? What do you use?
