@pat_dev Unfortunately I just got confirmed from Leaseweb that they only offer B2B services. So you have to have a company to sign up with them. That probably explains their relative obscurity among individuals.

I figured there was a catch somewhere, but that was a bit of a bummer for myself too.

If you're happy with Hetzner, no real reason to give them up. I use them myself too and their service is definitely solid and very price-competitive.

While #Hetzner dropped support for #FreeBSD, #Leaseweb already provides a 14.2-RELEASE rescue <2 days after release. Call me impressed.

@fastfinge Have you looked at #Leaseweb (https://www.leaseweb.com/en/) and #OVH (https://www.ovhcloud.com/en-ca/)?

They’re both European companies, the first one from the Netherlands and the second from France. They both have data centres in Canada, in the Greater Montréal area, and they are bigger size enterprises.

The chances that either get disconnected are low, although OVH had a datacentre burn down a couple of years ago.

Disclaimer: I used to work for Leaseweb. I have no ties with them today.

@mok0 I've never hosted anything internet-facing on my home network. Not for the general public anyway :-) I have always had a handful of leased servers somewhere. Currently I've got four machines with #Hetzner. Used to host at #LeaseWeb, but that was ages ago. I run a bunch of other things on them, but I think you could get a low specced virtual server for SMTP forwarding pretty cheap. If you wanted the hazzle ;-)

Unfortunately, there are not so many #CDN alternatives available. And most of those are not really investing in #renewables for their big #datacenters all over the world...
I only know #akamai and #leaseweb which are at least listed by The #Green #Web Foundation.

Major cloud hosting provider LeaseWeb is working to restore "critical" systems after a security breach caused the company to take the affected systems offline to mitigate security risks.

In its statement, it told customers that only a small percentage of their cloud customers were impacted by the downtime. The company goes on to say that they have retained a Digital Forensics & Incident Response (DFIR) firm to assist with its investigation.

The latter two are the "cheap" options for playing around and loads that are just really tiny. They're cheap, but not 1eu/mo (or less) cheap. I was hoping to find 1eu/mo cheap somewhere 😅

Dear #Leaseweb customer,

This email is to inform you that on December 15, at 17:00 CET, our Data Center Provider has informed us that condensation has been found in the power buying station of our AMS01 Data Center.

The grid provider has switched off all incoming cables which forces the Data Center to run fully on generator power. There is no service impact at this moment.
