Looking for a timer for ?
is not a pomodoro timer per se, but it does an amazing job of both staying out of the way and being where you need it.
I mean, supposedly it's for making tea, but don't let that confuse youโ€”I haven't found a better desktop application for running pomodoro sprints (Tomato tea-s) yet. ๐Ÿ˜ ๐Ÿ˜

Toolbar menu of KTeaTime showing the options Stretch Tea (1 min 45 sec), Walk Tea (5 min), 15-minute tea, 30-minute tea, 45-minute tea, 60-minute tea, and Tomato tea (25 min).
The a mouse cursor is hovering over the Tomato tea option.

For today's I'd like to call attention to Eidetic: an currently available through that is a wonderfully short, delightful memory game.
It also doubles as a cool party trick, if you give it to someone unsuspecting. The blank stares when the numbers get hidden are priceless ๐Ÿ˜‡๐Ÿ˜‡

Screenshot of an app showing a 3-by-6 grid in which the numbers from 1 through 9 are scattered (with plenty of grid cells left empty).

The addition of dark mode in 25.2 earlier this year took me by surprise at the time, but today I opened a Google Sheets document and... I'm honestly appalled that it still doesn't have a dark mode! ๐Ÿ˜‚
Good job setting a higher bar of user expectations to the @libreoffice team, and long live going where even large companies are too afraid to! ๐Ÿ’šโœจ

When Google Authenticator started nagging to back up codes on Google's cloudโ€”and thus to tie them all to one account which can also reset their passwords, a single point of failure 2FA is all about avoidingโ€”it was writing on the wall to move away from it.

Thankfully, @ente Auth does not nag me to backup; yet I retain the option to do that to servers under my control.

Long live ! We get to have both a cloud-free & nag-free life and the option to use a cloud if we want! ๐ŸŽ‰

For today's , I'd like to give a shoutout to github.com/tonymet/gcloud-lite โ€”while gcloud tooling is useful only for Google's own proprietary cloud, for the few poor souls who have to use that particular cloud software, having a distribution of gcloud that doesn't take an AAA game's worth of disk space is quite appreciated. It is little bits of software like this that give me hope that even corporate cultures can be reformed by open source software one day, even if they are proprietary now.

Okay, what. I finally got a Bluetooth dongle that works with (a TPLink UB400), and straight away, out of the box, I can:
Connect to bluetooth headphones and listen to music.
Connect my phone, and.. get music from the phone playing on the computer? With no configuration?
I. am. in. awe. - all my devices are working together! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
For reasons, today's shoutout goes to (again ๐Ÿฅฒ) and . Thanks to everyone who made Bluetooth work this well! ๐ŸŽ‰ ๐ŸŽ‰

It's again!
Ever wanted a camera that lets you manually control the focus and exposure settings for that one perfect shot from your mobile device? That can save RAW images, including individual HDR shots? Or perhaps, just a camera that doesn't always open Google Photos instead of your gallery app?
All of that, and more, is - a delightful to use, GPL-licensed Camera app, available on F-droid, customizable to fit you, in every way!

Even needed an image of your signature for a document? If you are anything like me, that's a long process, involving signing scratch paper, taking a photo, editing it, ... all for one signature just as insecure as if you reused the previous one!
If you are on however, you can try github.com/Wazzaps/fingerpaint out! It allows making such images using your laptop's touchpad, saving time and paper, while keeping the spirit of making an unique signature for each document.
rocks!

Aves Libre is a gallery and metadata explorer for Android
Like many others, I got fed up with Google's constant backup nags, and switched to find:
* A beautiful, sleek, and performant design. (I can quickly find landscape photos with the Mosaic view! ๐Ÿฅณ)
* A customizable photo-action toolbar.
* A way to browse photos by country or size or anything else.
* A peace of mind it won't randomly send my photos to Google.
Check it out! github.com/deckerst/aves

I remember I started toying around with @GIMP when I was still around 6~10 yo, and I spent many many hours just looking through menus and learning the various filters and tools.
It wasn't all intuitive, but trial and error went a long way; I still remember the joy of finally figuring out that tiny selection mask button!
Yet, a markedly more fun moment was seeing mom try to coax a Windows-based image editor to crop images, while GIMP did that with ease. Really, is a superpower!

It's #LibreMonday and I remembered a few day ago about a great game project born with the release of the #ArxFatalis source code : #ArxLibertatis arx-libertatis.org/. If you are a #UltimaUnderworld fan, this is a great game. I always like that kind of projects as it helps understanding the inside mechanics of the game.

I just used odf2txt ( github.com/dstosberg/odt2txt/ ) to count up all the words I wrote over the last few months in a dozen-or-so .ODT documents.
(`echo *.odt | xargs -n 1 odt2txt | wc -w`)
Long live open data formats and free software! Any closed-source solution with proprietary data formats would have had to specifically have a function for that, but using allowed me to do what I want without having to rely on the foresight of the original developers.

I have a weird setup with a formatted SSD holding all my projects files backing up to an HDD backing up to a Hetzner storagebox. Managing all the backups is "fun", because I only take the SSD with my when traveling, and I still want it to back up to the HDD at home.

But thankfully...

Btrbk exists! And allows me to keep track of all the backups and sync over SSH and configure the retention for everything and more!
Best of all? It's opensource, ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ˜Š

Some of the best Werewolf/#Mafia games I've ever played were over โ€”it's incredible how much depth that game can have when limited to just text. Now my IRL games are hard as I keep trying to teach others the strategy mid-game ๐Ÿ˜‚
Point being: We could really use more EU-time players on (Libera), werewolf.chat *nudge nudge*
Also: It's , so... if you want to experience that in your own channel, you can easily do so with Lykos! ๐Ÿฅณ๐Ÿ˜ github.com/lykoss/lykos/

Also, it's , so... guess what, time for a spotlight of the cool open-source project that makes that possible:
Originโ€”it is an all-around awesome GPLv3 tool for blocking ads and other annoying content across the internet, and allowing you to focus on what matters. Your time is valuable, use it. โญ (And your privacy is valuable too!)
And of course, honorable mention to , who are not actively making ad-blocking impossible by imposing technical limitations (). ๐Ÿ˜… ๐ŸŽ‰

Kdenlive is really great! I've also used it for editing coding lessons (though I record with OBS, just to have a camera in the corner), and the workflow is so, so pleasant! (: Glad to hear it works well for you too!

Would you look at that! It's again! (It sure would be nice to get more people participating in it...)
Anyway, for this week, I want to give a shout-out to LLDAP (Light LDAP), github.com/lldap/lldap, which is a really neat, low-configuration server that can fulfill all of your needs as a smaller organization that doesn't need the complexity of other solutions.
For example, I use limit password explosion between a few self-hosted apps for the students in my programming course.

I just got email working! ๐ŸŽ‰ Docker Mailserver was so very awesome and well-documented, that the whole setup (past getting port 25 unblocked on Hetzner) was pretty much just trivially following their documentation. Amazing what open-source software exists out there these days!
I suppose came in early this week? ๐Ÿ˜‚

Last week, I finally re-experienced the joy of composing music (as opposed to just playing by notes) after playing around with , and... *drumroll* !
_Carla_ is a patchbay for connecting different audio components together plus a plugin host for those same components. It is really nice to link audio processors together to get the sound one wants!
And that'sโ€”all open-source, made by @falktxโ€”thanks man, you brought many smiles to my face last week (:
