Guidelines On How To Share Location On Iphone

I am primarily a Mac dev but I do have a few iOS apps. Apple has just told me I have to update one because it’s been 3 years since the last update.

Anyway, this app uses LocationServices and I can’t get this to work in the iPhone Simulator. It works fine on my phone. I feel like I’ve seen some reports of this over the past few months. Does anyone know about this and is there a fix?

Anyone out there using RocketSim for their iOS simulator testing?

I'm running a simulated drive between two locations and I'm not seeing any significant location changes in my app at all. (I can poll the current location and see that it changes as it should but it doesn't trigger the significant change callbacks at all).

If I disable RocketSim and use the built-in “Freeway drive" scenario I can see the expected significant location calls in my app.

There needs to be a “not this time, but ask again” option for #LocationServices in iOS.

Relatively few apps get “allow when using the app”, and plenty of them I want to allow occasional one-time usage, but not every time they ask for it. But right now if I decline access, iOS treats that as a permanent ban and I have to go into settings to put it back to “ask next time”.

The full ban option has to remain, there are infinitely more use casss for that. But it’d be nice for something in the middle too.

So far the only drawback to using a Tailscale exit node is that it messes with location based things. Anything that wants my location thinks I’m at home, when in fact I am 1300 miles from home.

Small price to pay for cool technology.

@abishek_muthian I know nothing about organized efforts, but there was an official App by #Mozilla (Mozilla Stumbler) which helped collecting/contributing data. Unfortunately it's not maintained anymore since 2021, but there's another independent one which still sees updates every now and then:
