I'd make this a poll, but polls can't include images.

Firefox. I have clicked "ALT" on a post image and the pop-up alt-text window contains more text than will fit. I have hovered the mouse over the empty lower section of the scroll bar (you can see that it is fully expanded; I have indicated the mouse cursor with a "+").

What will happen when I click the lower section of the scroll bar?

1. Window scrolls and stays open.

2. Window scrolls but instantly closes.

A post with an alt-text window popped up. The actual text is irrelevant here, but is longer than the window can display, so there is a scroll bar. The mouse cursor (shown by a white "+") is hovering over the lower half of the scroll bar, ready to click.

There are notification related issues in my new accounts.

Notification counting doesn't zero, even if you look at them. The number keeps growing until it reaches 100, an then freezes at 100 notifications and stays like that forever. 😐

Also, the fox muted me once, it unmuted me later, but it can still not see me. 😐

Problem with Mastodon((#)bug), it does not support Turkish letters in regards to making the hashtag space at the end nice and tidy.

I had to change (#)WikidataBarışUşaklı to (#)WikidataBarisUsakli

Reproducibility:

1️⃣ On version v4.5.0-nightly.2025-07-30 use the hashtag (#)WikidataBarışUşaklı with other hashtags ie. (#)Example.
2️⃣ The hashtags will not display in the "nice and tidy" format...

I should take some screenshots I think. Took 2! Attaching...

Attached!

I'm highlighting here a Mastodon Bug where a hashtag with Turkish letters causes a problem for the "tidy and nice space of hashtags at the end of posts"

The hashtag in question is #WikidataBarışUşaklı and it is present in this screenshot.

As you see it causes problems not making the hashtag space at the end of the post "nice and tidy" like the code on Mastodon usually makes that space.I'm highlighting here a Mastodon Bug where a hashtag with Turkish letters causes a problem for the "tidy and nice space of hashtags at the end of posts".

This is screenshot 2/2 where the hashtag #WikidataBarışUşaklı is NOT(not) present and where the bug is not triggered.

This screenshot was provided to demonstrate how it should look in normal circumstances.

There is a big fucking bug in Mastodon's moderation features.

When I as a moderator suspend a remote account...

Expected behavior: The account can no longer be found or interacted with on our server and the account can't find or interact with accounts on our server.

Actual behavior: the account can still be found but is empty. there is a notice that the account is suspended and there is even still a follow button - it just doesn't do anything.
And the account can still see everything from our instance and interact with our posts. 🤯 Our users just won't reciprocate the interaction, because the reply won't appear here.
But if someone else replies to a reply from the suspended account we'll see that reply, but won't know what original post it belongs to.

Is this a new bug with Mastodon 4.3 or has it always been like that?
I've been moderating for 5 years now and this is new to me.

I'm not going to create an account on Microsoft™️ Github to officially file this bug report, but can someone tell me if it's already reported and what's the status? Thanks.

Additional ideal expected behavior: Previous replies to any of our posts by the suspended account won't be seen by anyone anywhere on the Fediverse - or at least not as replies to our posts, because our instance notifies/federates all other instances that these replies shouldn't be there.

@KanaMauna @davidho

Noticing a little glitch in Mastodon.

A notification of a filter being applied.
I click "Show anyway".
And get nothing.

Next toot down is a reply to David Ho.

The solution for me appears obvious - go to my list of Follows and remove David Ho.

Though it's not clear what to do if there is no reply including the tooting account name.

@alex
The distributor would be whoever controls the node, which may or may not be the same person as the OP.

So if Bob and Alice are on Frank’s node, and Bob writes something that Alice replies to, they both created their own work. Alice has a fair use right to quote or reference Bob. Neither Bob nor Alice has a right to suppress the other. But Frank has that power and right. If it’s a Mastodon server, I believe in this case Bob can block Alice and thus suppress Alice adding more replies in the future, but Alice’s past unblocked posts remain in place.

That’s the status quo. Of course the injustice with the status quo is that Alice cannot reply after being blocked. This is due to a bit of an obtuse compromise. It’s an anti-bullying policy that was coded into Mastodon. But this anti-bullying tool is actually mostly used to silence civil discourse. Alice should be able to express her further thoughts alongside her previous commentary; first and foremost to be able to correct herself.

The anti-bullying mechanism is abused profusely in #Mastodon, and not even by the OP. Anyone in a discussion can say “fuck you scumbag…” and block the other 1 second later. So any arbrary commentator can ensure themselves the last word. Effectively, the anti-bullying tool is now used by bullies.

Or worse, they don’t just sling vitriol but they actually just present misinfo that calls for correction. Then the person best positioned to correct the misinfo is blocked from doing so, while the person with the faster trigger finger can continue carrying on.

So yes it’s a shit show.

The anti-bullying button should be a temporary action. That is, a user should have that lever but it should go through moderation whereby if that lever is merely used to block ideas and block misinfo counter args, it should be reversible. It should not just be labelled “block” but rather “stop bullying” so users know how it is meant to be used.

Mastodon feature request: I would like to be able to have separate follow lists. Currently, I have my general follows in my "Home" list and my super follows in my "Notifications" list. I would like to add a number of other custom lists.

If you are connected to firewalled wifi and attempt to post in the Mastodon app you *do not* get an error. Your post is eaten. Deleted forever.

I wrote this amazing post and it’s gone. This has happened before. Other apps say “cannot post” when firewalled. Seems like bug.

(please don’t tell me to use a different app I have four apps each with their own issues- the purpose of this post is to check if it’s fair to call it a bug)

Apparently Mastodon has lost compatibility with #ungoogledChromium. I see just a black screen on both infosec.exchange and catcatnya which are running similar versions:

I’ve noticed that blocks are most commonly used to secure some asshole a “last word” so they can do a hit-and-run drive-by post. The #Mastodon tooling is designed so that no matter what misinfo they push, you can’t even correct it for /other people/ who read the thread.

This is a deliberate #MastodonBug. There is a bug report covering it. Lengthy debates, etc.

I mostly read Mastodon on MacOS in the Safari browser in "advanced web interface" (aka multi-column) and would love to see someone would fix the 'view post/thread' bug.

Clicking on the time-stamp of a post to view the whole thread and replies results in only a partial loading of the right-hand column. Reloading the page fixes it, but it's tedious to do every single time.

Columns: Home, Notifications, and five hashtag-specific columns.

Kinda pissed that #Mastodon #Android app doesn't have smarts to restore post-in-progress and return to same post after crash.☹️ Losing work always sucks.😡
Crash related to editing handles. Code-review and /or more monkeys?😉 #MastodonBug #MastodonApp

@jikodesu Yikes, that’s quite harsh considering the #Mastodon web client has a defect such that you *can’t* add alt text if the popup editor does not function in your browser.

I have several browsers and none of them can render the alt text dialog box. Feels like a #Wayland related problem. So I’m blocked from including alt text.

I often embed the alt text in the body of my post, but any mechanism that would automatically look for empty alt text would fail to detect that.

#Mastodon needs to fix their incompetent abuse of popups before implementing anything that would punish those affected by their #bugs. I also cannot handle any confirmation dialog boxes and have to disable all confirmations in my settings.

Found a #mastodonbug in reporting bugs for #mastodon
Got the error message below. The "report issue" link goes to github.com/mastodon/mastodon which is entirely unhelpful.

Yes, I realise that half the people here already have github accounts and opening a bug is no big deal for them, but for actual humans it's a pretty lousy experience.

There needs to be a hand holding bug report interface that will elicit the necessary info for a good bug report, without requiring users to go to another site.

ugh, on adv web interface in my browser and there's a nice blue line in my notifications column to show me where I left off reading UNLESS I do something simple like open a new tab. ARRRRRGH WHY???? This is a very annoying bug. #BrowserBug #MastodonBug

@SaintPeter @maelduin13 @ligniform @millesimus @mattblaze It’s a #MastodonBug for sure. At the very least, when someone adds a 2nd address to the body there should be a loud & clear warning esp. if they took the “private mention…” path to that form.
