While playing with #gnome on #alpinelinux, I decided to try out a new audio player. For many years, I used ncmpc w/ #mpd... but I don't really want to run an audio server 24/7 these days.

Looking around the #GNOME Circle, I found #amberol and quickly fell in love.

I really appreciate that you can add to the playlist via the terminal and that it supports MPRIS. I am now also using it on my #ubuntu system.

@jloc0 @dobbie003 I now have a working local CLI mpd in slackware64-current!

Next is to see if I can get it working over the network. Shouldn't be too difficult.

After that, I might build a gtk3dialog (a program in my slackbuilds) frontend for mpc/mpd. Not a big fan of Ymuse. It's ok but dependencies suck! gtk3dialog is a gtk interface more or less to shell scripts - with the correct GUI description!

Then get slack on my RPI 4 (8GB) and _THAT_ can be the server for all my music 😈

@raksodiano ok I just adjusted the yt-dlp command to my needs so I created this alias

it seems #youtube is starting to be rude with the ads blocker but days ago @raksodiano shared a script that used yt-dlp and I started to read the manual in my console, so I download all my playlists of youtube music use #picard to get the correct metadata, and use #mpd to play them. I'm happy

"The reality is that Downmarket Mussolini has only been back in the White House for four and a half months, and these police killing statistics go back years into a Biden administration that was elected in part, to specifically stop racialized police violence in response to the protests; the city where George Floyd was slowly murdered on camera by a sociopathic cop is in a Democratic-controlled State, run by one of the most progressive Governors in America. For a larger liberal establishment in the United States that had no answer for Trump at the ballot box to point at the Kelpto Kaiser’s racist authoritarian regime and declare the movement against police violence and white supremacist policing has failed, is one part deflection, and one part scapegoating. It is ultimately reductive to argue that the 2020 George Floyd protests were by themselves responsible for the broader fascist “white-lash” driving Trump’s second rise to power in an already white supremacist America, and disempowering to believe organized resistance against that white supremacy accomplished nothing merely because a state that was never designed to protect racialized people, or the labor class in general, refused to take meaningful action against police violence. We cannot un-see what we have observed, or unknow what we learned during the uprising, and the affliction of knowing cannot be cured with rubber bullets and tear gas."

All I need is a server for Linux which will allow me to stream #music for my and my fiance phones.

So I setup #mpd and stream music to #MALP application on android.

Aaaaannndd it's bad. There is huge lag. Configuration of it is quite easy but if you never worked with deamons on Linux it's better to leave it.

If any of you know better alternatives send help. Streaming through HTTP is not an option as I have 10 sec delay on each server input...

Music Server Again

I need to dig into the mpd music server again on my Raspberry Pi 4 because VLC isn’t working right and I need a confirmation that SD card isn’t the problem. VLC keeps on running into errors while playing files and it’s happening more and more frequently. VLC doesn’t seem to know how to play the mp3 files that I have. Is a VLC update in the cards? Or should I get out the CDs that I ripped the tracks from and re-rip in a different format? Such a hassle. I just want to listen to my […]
