Über bizarre Abkürzungen und die tödliche Bedrohung des Deutschen durch Denglisch

Die Angst, das E-Bike könnte entladen, bevor das Ziel erreicht ist, wird mit „FOPD“ abgekürzt. Das bedeutet „fear of premature discharge“.
Die deutsche Abkürzung wäre doppeldeutig, denn "vorzeitiges Entladen" kann sich auch auf Ejakulation beziehen.

In fast allen anderen Fälllen sind englische Abkürzungen nicht hilfreich. "Flüssigkristallanzeige" wird gerne "LCD-Display" genannt, "Flüssigkristallanzeige-Anzeige".

"Three (oder four, seven, n) in one" bedeutet nicht "drei 8oder vier oder sieben oder n) in Eins", sondern "drei, vier, sieben, n) in Einem. Denglisch ist tödlich für Dativ. 

Nicht nur im Fall der "SMS" beleidigt es die Intelligenz schwer. Niemand hat jemals einen Kurznachrichtendienst verschickt. "SMS" steht für "short message service". Wenn die englische Abkürzung  für Kurznachricht doppeldeutig ist, verwende mandie deutsche. "KN" ist nicht durch die Nazizeit vorbelastet. Das wäre kein Problem gewesen.

"KZ" ist übrigens ein Beweis dafür, dass das Wort "Konzentrationslager" aus dem Englischen übernommen wurde; anderenfalls wäre die deutsche Abkürzung "KL" geworden."

In the Silent Era, before the existence of the Hays Code (and largely a cause for it), many female screenwriters wrote heroines who flouted the brazen sexual freedom of the new century, a specialty of Josephine “Jo” Lovett. Born in October 1877 in San Francisco Lovett would spend some time as a lead actress on the Broadway stage before moving to Los Angeles to both act and write what were called scenarios for the bulk of her career.

From Missouri to Musicals: The Screenwriting Career of Dorothy Yost – Dr. Rosanne Welch, Script Magazine, November 2025

Born on April 25, 1899 in St. Louis, Missouri to Alice Kern and Robert M. Yost, Dorothy moved to Los Angeles to work in the burgeoning film industry and clearly succeeded in that goal.  By the time she died in 1967 Yost had written over 80 films and achieved what many other writers did not – thriving in both Silent Films and into the Sound Era. Interestingly, it was her foray into film that brought her journalist brother Robert Yost into the film industry after she found her footing there. Her first screenwriting credit came in 1920, his in 1935 after some years on the staff of local newspapers, as publicity director for Fox West Coast Studios and finally head of the scenario department for Fox.

The thing about kids is, I don’t really care for them. They’re fine one-on-one, and I’m quite fond of all my grandchildren, but when you get several of them together, they lose their minds and become little more than feral banshees. They like to repeat sounds and words, over and over, like psychotic Buddhist monks on a meth-infused bender. It’s exhausting and pushes my addled brain to the limits of human composure.

Against a backdrop of xenophobic and ethnonationalist fantasies of linguistic purity, Poetry After Barbarism uncovers a stateless, polyglot poetry of resistance—the poetry of motherless tongues. Departing from the national and global paradigms that dominate literary history, Jennifer Scappettone traces the aesthetic and geopolitical resonance of “xenoglossic” poetics: poetry composed in the space of contestation between national languages, concretizing dreams of mending the ruptures traced to the story of Babel. As global migration, aerial bombardment, and the wireless telegraph shrank distances with brute force during the twentieth century, visions of transcultural communication emerged in the hopes of bridging linguistic difference. At the same time, evolving Fascist ideologies denied the reality of cultural admixture and the humanity of the stranger.

Authors who write xenoglossic verse occupy languages without a perceived birthright or sanctioned education; they compose in ecstatic “orphan tongues” that rebuff nationalist ideologies, on the one hand, and globalization, on the other, uprooting notions of belonging ensconced in nativist metaphors of milk, blood, and soil while rendering the reactionary category of the barbarian obsolete. Raised within or in the wake of fascism, these poets practice strategic forms of literary and linguistic barbarism, proposing modes of collectivity that exceed geopolitical definitions.
