Resumé om felfria tåg som vägrade starta. Anledningen var att tågdatorn via GPS sett att tåget befann sig på en verkstad som konkurrerade med tågtillverkaren Newag. Tågdatorn ville inte heller kännas vid nya, fullt fungerande komponenter eftersom de hade "fel" serienummer. När detta åtgärdats fungerade tågen som vanligt igen.

Ah yes, when you're so used to making do with regional stock on your urban railway that when you finally get the opportunity to order a completely new fleet you… get more regional stock, complete with narrow aisles and steps between carriages. Despite already having higher platforms than on the mainline network.

Newag says this is the best they could do given the number of seats required. And that using classical bogies necessitated the steps, but "helps better adjust the floor to the platform level".

Myself, I'm not sure what I expected anymore. Enjoy the seats, I guess - they look like what we know from the Impuls 2s that already run here, those are pretty nice and comfortable (on reflection, isn't it crazy that in this country you often get nicer seats on regional trains than on InterCity these days?).

And maybe I shouldn't be throwing stones - it is a pretty long route.

@bsi und gerade der #Newag Fall, ein polnisches Unternehmen, zeigt auch, dass es nicht nur um Souveränität der EU (Länder) gegenüber den USA oder China heißen muss. Sondern digitale Souveränität für den Endkunden.

@bsi und auch verstehe ich noch nicht, wie man bei der Doppelstrategie irgendeine Form von seriöser Kontrolle über closed Software erlangen will. Insbesondere wenn diese gleichzeitig Updates erhalten soll.

Wie soll man da verhindern, dass ein Anbieter da (evtl. per Update) Funktionalität reduziert oder ganz einstellt? Vendors should be required to supply source code and assist in compilation, flashing and verification; but the operator should have the means to introspect and verify any part of such deliveries independently.

Then this entire mess of a Polish train manufacturer never could have gone off the rails.
