I really need to check dimensions on things.
This is the Nooelec kit for weather goes capture and this is a lot more antenna than I thought was gonna be.
Heads up, there are only two kinds of #nooelec #softwaredefinedradio : those with no bias-T, and those with a bias T that cannot be turned off. Fortunately, I got the former, and didn't accidentally release the magic smoke from any of my equipment, unfortunately I still need USB power to run my LNA

My current ADS-B receiver is running on a Pi 3, and does frankly a lousy job at hearing aircraft, seeing about 1/3 of a typical receiver in my area.
I got a new NESDR v5 from #Nooelec and when I plug it into my MacBook Air M1 I can hear way more airplanes with dump1090, even with nominally worse antenna location.
Now that I have enough parts, I'm going to compare the impact of CPU speed, antenna type, SDR type in reception.
Is the Pi too slow?

The LNA I mentioned in my previous post, well itβs a #Nooelec sawbird H-Line amplifier. About 41dB gain, centered around 1420MHz.

Here is my current #radiosonde setup. One SDR is 'missing' as it was installed/in use at the time of this photo, so this is the 4 #SDR upgrade that we did a few weeks back.
Just want to test the orange dongles with their inbuilt LNAs to scratch an itch.
Don't need the gain really and most times, more gain is always worse.
I have 3 of the new #nooelec v5's coming soon. They will be the real test.

An #Airspy HF+ and a #Youloop antenna is very portable, and gets you very broad frequency receive coverage.
#Nooelec has some fun SDR parts too.
The ARROW club is doing a group build of a "tape measure Yagi" antenna, optimized for 2 meters and very directional. That's a transmit and a receive antenna, and when I get it built I hope to take to to the top of a parking structure and point it at repeaters far away.
